I'm admitted as of 1/23 too but have yet to receive a call, email, or letter. I'm in-state with a 168 and 3.2

Do I have a shot at a full ride?

Yes. I'd cautiously say a good shot, actually. You're well above LSAT median and in-state, which in past years have typically been enough for a full ride. You never know what will change for this year, but I'd say you can be cautiously optimistic about a good scholarship coming your way in the next month or two.

168! If they don't give you a full-ride, that is an insult!

Seriously, with that score you should be an outside shot for lower t-14 and definite $$ or $$$ at 25-35 schools.

Not with a 3.2, chill out dude. I'm not undermining the value of a 168, but let's not overhype it and give false hope. Iowa is the best school that will be a definite acceptance with those numbers, and being in-state will undoubtably be the best school for the money. The only T14 that would be a chance would be Georgetown, and a pretty weak chance at that.

Nope. As of c/o 2016 they have caught up with the rest of their peer schools and only require something like a 2.5 to keep the scholarship. And you'd have to really try to not keep a 2.5.

I would have been a Hawkeye and not at NU if they had stopped being retards 3 years earlier.

And I'd be $24k less in debt. And we'd probably be friends.

I got my acceptance email yesterday and I should be getting scholarship information soon. I like to think that Iowa will reward it's own people with stacks on stacks of schollys. Recognizing thy neighbor's success is the Iowa way.

I don't know what's with this sense of entitlement to scholarship money with a high LSAT score.

I get that schools want to bolster their stats but what about yield protection? Also, I think softs and whether a school really wants you to attend based on your application are important factors in determining what they give you.

If you're just out of college, you're lucky if you even get accepted to law school in probably about 75% of cases; your essay is probably vapid and probably doesn't demonstrate a sincere passion for anything. You're probably making a decision based on desperation, and I would urge you to reconsider for everyone's sake.

All this said, haha, I'm not sure the 168-er has even heard about $ yet. That's my tirade for the day.

Respectfully, I have to disagree. I think that in this down cycle, 168 and above a 3.0 is pretty much a lock at any school ranked 20-30 (barring HUGE red flags on the application).

Also, we can argue until we are blue in the face about the merits of a high LSAT, but it matters, so we just have to deal with it.

Really not trying to rip on Iowa; if you want to practice in Iowa, then it is your best option. However, I think it is ridiculous not to give them $$$ (especially with the new smaller class sizes).

I didn't think Iowa yield protected - especially not with in-state applicants

I think he was referring to yield protection at other schools the person with the 168 might be applying to; explaining why they might not get accepted at better schools with that great LSAT. However, using that argument, shouldn't Iowa move heaven and Earth to protect their yield to keep the person with the 168 now that they have already admitted them?

Long story short cmillerruni, don't be afraid to ask for more money if they low ball you.

Hi Domke,

Can you (or someone else) elaborate on the "2.1" in regard to your stipend? What does that number represent in actual dollars?
Do you have to do anything for it (RA, or anything else)?

Thanks so much!

"Stip" around here doesn't mean stipend, it means stipulation. A "2.1 stip" means that the recipient has to keep their GPA at 2.1 or above, or they will lose their scholarship.

I appreciate it your clarification, gta.
I've lurked for a while now, but I still struggle with all of the acronyms and abbreviations on this site.

ABA-LSAC data says that almost 7% of Iowa students received "more than full tuition".
Do you think Iowa is reporting their offers of "full tuition + RA employment" in this category to be part (or all) of the 7%, or do they have 7% of awards that are truly stipends with no RA component?

Depends on your numbers and when other people accept/reject their scholarships.

As far as I know, no one gets more than full tuition. If they do, it must be reserved for URM scholarships, but even those I think are simply full tuition.

If you are out-of-state, you must be an RA 2L and 3L years to bring your tuition down to in-state, otherwise you pay the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition even on full scholarship. It is not hard to get an RA job.
