Just think of it from the law school's perspective. Part of the ranking is the applicant's GPA and LSAT scores.

With the number of applicants going down overall, you will see the more of the talent go to higher ranked schools. UMN has 19 schools ranked ahead of it nationally, and geographically it's not really the best attraction either. Assuming that most people who get into UMN have also been waitlisted at higher ranked schools and/or got a full ride in lower ranked schools, there will be quite a number of students not enrolling. If those that don't enroll are those that have also been accepted to higher ranked schools or otherwise awesome students, they're likely going to open up sizable sums of scholarship that can now be claimed by those who have not enrolled yet.

Since UMN has a program where undergrads from the U can waive the LSAT if their GPAs are high, this usually means (I'm guessing) that their high-scoring LSAT applicants are leaving (undergrads who don't take the LSAT obviously can't apply to other schools) so if you are on the waiting list as a splitter with a high LSAT, you can actually luck in with a bigger scholarship offer than those who have been accepted right away.

Whether that translates into negotiating opportunities for those of you who have been accepted is a slightly different matter, but if you feel you have a high LSAT score, you might want to give it a shot. Remember that it's not going to do you much good if you don't have a better offer from a comparable institution (or something that the school will not consider as a bluff), but if you have a full ride or close from a school that is closer to you but have not gotten nearly as much, maybe that's something you could try. Since the economy can't get much worse, if you can postpone school for another year, you may want to see if you can play hardball.

(they can play some hardball too by reducing class size, so don't try this unless desperate)

This is a weird situation, but my email account deleted all of my old emails, including my decision email. Does anyone have the name of the dean that signed the email (not sure if waitlist/accepted students are signed by the same Dean).. Thanks

I got a confirmation email (from umnlsadm@umn.edu) when I submitted my Robina program materials, and I got an email acceptance (from amfurst@umn.edu) today.

Damn. Guess I didn't get it. Or get considered :(. Hope this doesn't get me behind the ball on PI/government work. Like if I don't have that is that going to end up looking bad? Am I worrying too much?

Definitely this. The program website says notification will be on or before April 21. Informing them of your continued strong interest might help? Furthermore, this is just my impression as a 0L, but it seems to me like the vast majority of the benefits for Robina scholars (PI career counseling, funding for summer internships, etc.) are available to all U of MN law students – you would just have to seek them out a bit more proactively. What you actually do during law school will matter way more to PI employers than whether you were selected to a scholar program as a 0L.

Does anyone have any good info about the wait list. I'm sure they'll notify if you're admitted but will they ever say you're no longer considered or talk about your chances of getting admitted?

Applicants should be aware that the Law School is not required to maintain an offer of admission if it discovers that the applicant has accepted an offer at another institution. The Law School reserves the right to cancel the matriculation of any admitted student who is reserving seats in both our entering class and the entering class of another law school. We discourage "double-depositing" prior to May 15, but prohibit it after that date, barring exceptional circumstances.

This is the language about deposits from the admitted students website. Does this mean you can't double deposit? They say they discourage it prior to May 15, but they also say that they can revoke admissions offers if they discover that a student is double deposited.

Today. Unless you were accepted very recently, I'd assume in that case they'd give you a bit of an extension.

What is the average decision time? I applied late...App was considered complete in march and have yet to receive a decision. Anyone else get in recently?
