The full ride scholarships are unconditional, but all other merit awards have the 50% stipulation. They're not going to negotiate on that, but may increase your award if you complain about the stipulations enough, for what it's worth.

A little bird told me they had some success negotiating stips, but not that much.

O rly. Interesting! All the current students and deans at ASW I spoke with said the stipulations were the only think the school wouldn't budge on.

I don't think it is normal at all and they do not like to do that. That being said, I have heard of one person who got it out of the many many I knew of who applied and were accepted, so I get the feeling that it is extremely rare and done on a case by case basis likely depending on finances from what I heard from that person

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on the summer class they offer before 1L year or if anyone is planning doing it?

I'm also curious about people's thoughts, but I'm likely going to pass.

That stipulation is a concern and the main thing keeping me from fully committing at this point. I mean, we all don't plan on doing worse than top 50%, but things happen. My other options have better stipulations and less students losing their scholarship, so if something happened, I'd be in better shape. I do like to worry a lot though.

If I didn't receive a call today, I'm dinged or waitlisted, correct?

Were under tornado warnings and stuff. We had exams postponed today, so while I don't want to give you false hope, operations may not have been as normal. FYI.

Is it meant to be an exclusive offer for advancement for some while a condition of admission for others others?

If it's free and you have the opportunity to move in early wherever you want to live do it

It's not remedial, you just take contracts I (I think) early.

You'll only be "under loaded" for one semester, but you won't even feel like it. It's only a 2 credit course and you'll still have legal writing which feels like 5 credits at time.

It probably won't give you a huge edge, but why not take it and get it over with?

Plus you'll be done with finals in the fall a few days earlier

I'm taking it and so excited about it. Not a "remedial" thing at all. All the rising 2Ls I talked to about either wouldn't trade it for anything and the others that didn't wish they knew.

So to each his own but I'm so excited about it and I'll know ppl, faculty, staff, other 1Ls before the Fall.

thanks for the feedback everyone! i also got the impression that it is not remedial, but that there are a select few that it is required as a condition of admission for. no way to know how many though. otherwise its offered if you indicated interest.

Anybody know if this is good/neutral/bad?

MyBama ID Instructions 04/29/2014
MyBama ID Instructions 03/18/2014

2 boxes in the Mailings box on the application check page say the same thing about MyBama ID, but with different dates, never received the second email on 4/29. My file had a decision on 4/28 with no call. Thanks!

So, does Bama reject via email? I have the 4/29/14 thing too, and I am getting nervous.

Previous posts in this thread indicate people were rejected via snail mail with an online status of "Pending Final Committee Decision."

3:42 PM:
"Thank you for applying to The University of Alabama School of Law. Applications to our law school have increased this year, but we will maintain our small class size. With such a competitive applicant pool, the Admissions Committee faces a very difficult task selecting the incoming first-year class.

After repeated deliberations, the Committee decided to put you on our Waitlist for Fall 2014. We cannot now say whether we will make offers from the Waitlist, but we have done so in the past several summers.

We encourage you to keep us informed of your plans, including whether you wish to remain on the Waitlist. We appreciate your patience and interest in our law school. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Admissions Office at (205)348-5440 or admissions@law.ua.edu."
