I dunno, so far Emory has not been approaching the admissions process like any other school I've applied to. Between being incommunicado until February to the mystery FedEx acceptances sent to URMs on MLK Day, I'm just rolling with the unexpected. Dean Rosenzweig handwrote an extremely sweet and personalized letter for my acceptance, so maybe you should just think of the late night love as a good thing.anonymous092 wrote:I'm student at Emory and got a VERY strange, very personalized email last night from the Dean of Admissions at 11:20 p.m. "thanking me for my continued interest in an Emory education" and complimenting my "strong application". Did this happen to anyone else? I feel very singled out for no reason and it was very strange that it was sent so late at night..

Anyone know if Emory releases $ offers at the same time as admissions offers?
Also, c'mon, admissions.

Almost certain they do. I think that's one of the reasons they don't release decisions until Feb.TheSpanishMain wrote:Anyone know if Emory releases $ offers at the same time as admissions offers?

Yes, they do. Unless you are selected for Woodruff interviewWinston1984 wrote:Almost certain they do. I think that's one of the reasons they don't release decisions until Feb.TheSpanishMain wrote:Anyone know if Emory releases $ offers at the same time as admissions offers?

Judging by LSN dates from last year, I'm thinking first acceptances go out at the end of this week.

Do you know if they let you know if you're a Woodruff finalist at the same time as your acceptance? Or does that come later?wsparker wrote:Yes, they do. Yes, they do. They are also considered "final" offers. Emory doesn't do much/any scholly negotiation.Winston1984 wrote:Almost certain they do. I wouldn't put much stock in what they tell you over the phone. Apparently they won't release any admissions info over the phone, so they probably can't give you anything other than "Your application is in the process, please wait for a mailing."

This. Plus emory makes it pretty clear they don't like you hittin them up for stuff unless its an important update to be added to your file and such. PLENTY of the t50's have an open communication channels for us 0L's... Emory just isn't one of them. They're kind of like the pretty popular girl who is afraid to admit she wants you back since we're lowly 0L's lol.TheSpanishMain wrote:I wouldn't put much stock in what they tell you over the phone. Re: Emory Class of 2017 (2013-2014 Cycle)
Hi everyone – this is Ethan Rosenzweig, the dean of Admission and Financial Aid at Emory Law. I appreciate your allowing me to post information from time-to-time as the application cycle moves forward. I apologize for being quiet; our accelerated decision process wrapped up last week on top of a couple of weather days that kept us closed, but we are back to more normal temperatures in the 50s and 60s, so all is well. Here are a few notes:
Application Decisions: Our first round of admission decisions are in the hands of our mailhouse. I anticipate these hitting mailboxes early next week. (The letters are currently going through a verification process to ensure the addresses conform to appropriate standards, the correct letter is placed in the proper envelope – my biggest worry, etc.) If a scholarship is awarded, we provide that information in the acceptance letter as well. Our process doesn’t allow for decisions over the phone, but I will post here when all decisions have been issued (usually, in late March). That way, if you haven’t heard something by then, you can reach out to us directly so we can investigate.
I want to stress that there are many more rounds to go. Trust me. I know how stressful this time of year can be for our applicants, and it is my goal to issue decisions as quickly as possible.
I hope you know that as we put together our incoming Class of 2017, we spend a lot of time reviewing your application, reading your essays, your recommendations, and your resume. I know lots of folks describe these as “soft factors,” but they truly are important to us. You have spent a good amount of time crafting the perfect application, and we feel a strong obligation to provide you a comprehensive and deliberate review. I sincerely appreciate your patience.
Visiting Day: Our Visiting Day for invited students occurs on Saturday, April 5. You will have lots of choices of where to matriculate, and we are pleased to provide hotel accommodations on the evening of the 4th to make it easier to experience the Emory Law community. I hope to see lots of folks at what is traditionally a very memorable experience. (I am taste-testing the proposed Visiting Day food in the next few days…my favorite part.) Don’t be afraid to bring your family; they are integral in the decision process, and we would love to see them.
Addendums and Additional Material: I have been asked to discuss addendums, and I wanted to go through that process for folks. We generally discourage additional material. However, we trust your judgment; if there is something new that you feel significantly impacts your application; we will add it to your file. Because your file is reviewed numerous times, when an addendum or update arrives, we re-distribute your file to those who have already reviewed it so that they can adjust any notes and determine how this new material impacts the original review. This will add some time to the review process of your file, and I appreciate the patience. We usually do not recommend sending new material because your original submission is the one you spent so much time on, and almost always provides us a plethora of great information to base our decision.
Questions: I hope these updates provide some insight on our process. It is my goal to ensure that you have all the information you need to make an informed decision, and I encourage you to email us directly at jdadmission(a)emory.edu if you haven’t received an answer to your individual question.
I appreciate your allowing me to post here, and thanks again for some outstanding applications this year. It is invigorating to read your files and picture the future of our Emory Law community. See you on campus soon.
