My move from "incomplete" to "ready for review" took far less than two weeks. Does that mean this "ready" purgatory will last even longer or are decisions coming fast and furious now?

Not sure, I went from complete to in review to held to being called invited to an admitted student reception to accepted.

I have and I'm pretty sure others have as well, they are giving out quite a bit this year so its worth asking. What are your numbers and what were you initially offered?

I don't know if its REALLY been attempted, but I would not count on this happening.

Someone earlier posted that they attempted to negotiate for more than a full scholarship and got turned down.

Illinois moved up 7 spots to 40, so it looks like Illinois may be recovering slowly from the serious decline it was in which is good

I think Illinois will eventually get all the way back up into T25. They are moving at that pace very qucickly now. I just got my flash drive today, its nice. I'm still considering Illinois even though I want to work in Ohio.

So my decision is down to two choices, UIUC full tuition, or Wake Forest with $105,000. I am having trouble choosing. The fact that UIUC went up in the rankings is a good sign that it's rep is recovering. I visited Wake. Now I just have to see UIUC.

Objectively, UIUC is the right call, supposing you don't care about your market. I got offered more money at Wake Forest than UIUC and I'm leaning UIUC because working in Chicago is the dream for me. Unless you care about something like that, between paying a little and paying nothing, you gotta go for the paying nothing.

What do you want to do and where do you want to be: those should be the two most important questions you ask yourself as you visit and decide which school is better suited to get you there.

The rise in rank is nice, but it should be a marginal factor in your decision.

I agree. I am from Maryland. I have never been to Illinois. I am going to the ASD to see if I like the area. I do not know where I want to be. I can say that after visiting NC, I don't think I would like to work there. But Wake is a regional school that covers more than just NC. I want as little debt as possible. I don't care about biglaw, but I do think the fact that such a large percentage of grads work in biglaw out of UIUC says something positive about their reputation. My brother is in biglaw in D.C. and I think I would have a better shot at D.C. from Wake than Illinois. However, I have never been to Chicago, and from what I hear it's a great place to be a lawyer. It's also only a two hour flight from MD, so if I want to see my fam, it won't be such a trek. I am also a traditional Jew, and there are far more Jews in Champaign than Winston-Salem (but this is not a major factor or consideration).

Assuming you are flying into Chicago and have the time, try to at least make it to some of the key places in the city. You have a better chance at securing good employment in Chicago than anywhere else, so it better be a place you like to live.

As far as DC goes, I know UIUC has a few really well connected alums in DC, but otherwise not a tremendous presence there. That being said, LST only shows 5.8% of Wake grads working in DC.
