+1 to what MilfordMan said. I came from DC and I met several of our really successful alums there and they are some of our most committed alumni and very helpful. But whether it is UIUC or WF, I wouldn't plan on going straight to DC from either unless you network really hard. Feel free to PM me about DC or the Jewish stuff if you wantAMilfordMan wrote:Assuming you are flying into Chicago and have the time, try to at least make it to some of the key places in the city. I am going to the ASD to see if I like the area. I do not know where I want to be. I can say that after visiting NC, I don't think I would like to work there. But Wake is a regional school that covers more than just NC. I want as little debt as possible. I don't care about biglaw, but I do think the fact that such a large percentage of grads work in biglaw out of UIUC says something positive about their reputation. My brother is in biglaw in D.C. and I think I would have a better shot at D.C. from Wake than Illinois. However, I have never been to Chicago, and from what I hear it's a great place to be a lawyer. It's also only a two hour flight from MD, so if I want to see my fam, it won't be such a trek. I am also a traditional Jew, and there are far more Jews in Champaign than Winston-Salem (but this is not a major factor or consideration).Chardee_MacDennis wrote:What do you want to do and where do you want to be: those should be the two most important questions you ask yourself as you visit and decide which school is better suited to get you there.
The rise in rank is nice, but it should be a marginal factor in your decision.
As far as DC goes, I know UIUC has a few really well connected alums in DC, but otherwise not a tremendous presence there. That being said, LST only shows 5.8% of Wake grads working in DC.

Is there anything after "ready for review"? Been sitting on that for awhile now. (Okay, only a few weeks.)

Does anyone know how much the first seat deposit is? I see it's due on 4/15 but can't seem to find how much it is.

Mine is still under review since 3/11 and I can only see the 1st deposit due on 4/15.

Not sure if they are buying, but I think we're going to have the chance to socialize/drink with current students.RLowry23 wrote:Is that where they buy us drinks?Ditka747 wrote:I'm going. Looking forward to this "Savor the Flavor" event.RLowry23 wrote:Is anyone going to ASD next Friday (3/21)?

They give you a few tickets that are good for select food/drinks at certain downtown restaurants. I went last year and had a good experience. The only downside to the upcoming ASD is that it is the friday that spring break starts, so a lot of students will be leaving town that afternoon. There will for sure still be current students going out, but I would expect the April ASD to have a bigger student presence.Ditka747 wrote:Not sure if they are buying, but I think we're going to have the chance to socialize/drink with current students.RLowry23 wrote:Is that where they buy us drinks?Ditka747 wrote:I'm going. Be honest: why would a 1L+ want to drink with a 0L? (OK, I can see one or two exceptions.)AMilfordMan wrote:They give you a few tickets that are good for select food/drinks at certain downtown restaurants. I went last year and had a good experience. 1. I'm pretty sure current students get drink/food tickets as well. So, it's free.Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote: Be honest: why would a 1L+ want to drink with a 0L? (OK, I can see one or two exceptions.)
2. Something you will hear about 100 times in the CSO networking presentations: lawyers (and law students) love to talk about themselves. You can't find a better audience than a group of 0Ls.
3. Again, free food and drinks.

The Dean's were just very open and honest, they provided a ton of incredible information on the school and it's job prospects. It seems like they are really doing alll they can to adapt to the current legal environment and make a real play for UIUC to be moved up the rankings. You have lunch at assigned tables with faculty and Dean's (I think they match them to your interests, at least they all matched mine).Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:Details? Everyone is very friendly, open and awesome.
It was just a great time.

Sure was. The drink coupons were a better deal than I thought they were going to be too. Just about every bar offered 16oz drafts per ticket (they give you six).RLowry23 wrote:The Dean's were just very open and honest, they provided a ton of incredible information on the school and it's job prospects. The "April 15th" First Deposit date has disappeared off my status checker. Hoping that isn't a bad sign
