IS anyone going to be in Chicago for the summer before 1L? If so, we're trying to have a pre-1L Chicago get-together. Send me a PM if interested.

Rumor has it around here that the incoming class is going to be a bit larger than expected. Not sure how much larger, though, but quite a bit.

Shit. More people competing for jobs - doesn't mean you're going to be competing for the exact same jobs. And I'm sure they've got a few dozen more deposits than anticipated and not HUNDREDS.isuperserial wrote:Shit. Further saturation in the Chicago area job market. Hypothetically, say there's 500 jobs for 600 students, that's much better odds than 500 jobs for 800 students. I think I just answered my own question.Chardee_MacDennis wrote:Why would it affect employment?isuperserial wrote:Shit. Re: University of Illinois UIUC c/o '17 Applicants (13-14 cycle)
I think you're significantly overestimating the effect a few dozen students will have on job prospects. Not all of the increased class size will be eligible for OCI, let alone get jobs. This will have a minuscule affect.isuperserial wrote:Further saturation in the Chicago area job market. Re: University of Illinois UIUC c/o '17 Applicants (13-14 cycle)
I don't know what your class size will end up. But I almost can guarantee that it won't be larger than the class of 2016 and if it is it will not be by more than a few ppl. Which when you consider all the firms and companies that come to U of I for OCI, that it will not matter. If anything, all a slightly larger class means is that it is probably a better scoring class and will hopefully help to get UIUC back in the top 25 of USNWR where it was before. And I really hate writing that sentence because all that matters is jobs. I don't want to be a shill for the law school, but don't worry about class size. UIUC was smaller to begin with, which is one of the reasons its jobs numbers were better compared to other peer schools and over the past few years it's only gotten smaller. Takeaway is if you're attending UIUC this fall don't worry about the class size it will be fine, focus on enjoying the summer and getting good grades come fall. If you are on the waitlist, don't lose hope, but I would recommend retaking the LSAT so that you improve your chances and get money from the school.

I also heard this directly from Becky when I went on a tour. She said they're already at the level of last year's class, and that was three weeks ago. Then again with the seat deposit being so low I'm betting that quite a few people have deposited and might not attend...

What was last years entering class? About 170? So this year would be what, 180?

Re: University of Illinois UIUC c/o '17 Applicants (13-14 cycle)
Our class is 172. The incoming class had about 180ish seat deposits, not all of whom will attend, and was only projected to be about 140-150.Yanky91 wrote:What was last years entering class? About 170? So this year would be what, 180?
What this means: there will likely be very little WL movement. If you have other offers, I suggest you seriously consider them. If you're set on UIUC for whatever reason and can afford to sit out this cycle, retake, bump up your LSAT and re-apply.

Who's class was projected to be 150? 2016 or 2017? Did 2017 have 180 deposits? I really think the fact that the deposit was only $250 encouraged a lot of people to lock in while they negotiate elsewhere.

My class, 2016, has 172. The incoming class, 2017, was projected to be a bit less, but the school received more seat deposits than expected, probably provoked in part by a lower deposit amount (ours was $500).bugsy33 wrote:Chardee_MacDennis wrote:Our class is 172. The school traditionally hasn't pulled a ton from the WL even without an unanticipated number of deposits, so if your strategy was "wait-and-see," it was inherently flawed. I understand the angst, but at this point, if you haven't been admitted, your chance of being admitted, while still non-zero, is very low.
