Just got my scholarship form in last night (I imagine I'm not the only buzzer-beater here). Despite getting into a couple of higher-ranked schools and large scholly offers from slightly worse schools, UW has been looking better and better. Any insight into how the scholarship process works? Do they give much weight to the req'd scholarship essay or is it all really just a numbers game like most other schools? I'm a 3.42/166 out of state... if anyone has similar numbers and has received a scholly offer they want to share, it would be greatly appreciated

Is anybody else still "In Review" today? At this point I'm going to assume I've been dinged or won't receive any financial aid (as their scholarship deadline is today).

Got my scholarship award, first a 40k award to allow me to pay the equivalent of in-state tuition (thought this was a strange way to dole out the $), and 50k spread over year 2 and 3 = 90k total over the 3 years, leaving me on the hook for about 42k in tuition.
Now faced with UW at 42k vs Lewis & Clark (I'm from Portland and have a lot of ties here) at 21k, probably a 30-40k difference given Seattle's COL is about +20% from Portland.
Right about 75 for LSAT and above 75 for GPA.
Anyone else get theirs?

164/3.86 - accepted back on 1/31
I, too, received my scholarship offer today. I was offered 10k/year but they mentioned that because I'm a Washington resident I may be eligible to receive the Graduate University Grant which "has been traditionally $8,000 per year" according to the award letter which would bring it up to 18k/year. Does anyone know anything about the Graduate University Grant? I tried a Google search but I can't seem to find anything about qualifications. Very few mentions on the website of the Office of Financial Aid.
Funny you mention L&C. Got in there as well and was offered 32k/year so I'm in the same boat as you being a Portland native. Still leaning strongly to UW however.

I got a similar award. I'd re-read your offer. I didn't receive two awards, just one award and one waiver. The waiver lowers the tuition to in-state, not actually giving moneyMegamanX2 wrote:Got my scholarship award, first a 40k award to allow me to pay the equivalent of in-state tuition (thought this was a strange way to dole out the $), and 50k spread over year 2 and 3 = 90k total over the 3 years, leaving me on the hook for about 42k in tuition.

Not to be snarky, but doesn't 40k = 40k whether it's an award or a waiver? It's 40k just the same.I got a similar award. I'd re-read your offer. I didn't receive two awards, just one award and one waiver. The waiver lowers the tuition to in-state, not actually giving money

I think their only point was that the 50k scholarship would then be spread out over the 3 years over the overall lower tuition. Not the 50k spread over the last two years like you said. I could be mistaken. Just a guess.MegamanX2 wrote:Not to be snarky, but doesn't 40k = 40k whether it's an award or a waiver? It's 40k just the same.I got a similar award. I'd re-read your offer. Got the same award amount as you and I'm a Washington resident as well, but didn't get that line about the grant... :/ weird.zephyr12 wrote:164/3.86 - accepted back on 1/31

Yeah I got an e-mail from the Assistant Dean. I was confused for a while because I thought we might have to set-up a UW e-mail in order to get the scholarship offer based on what the admittance letter said, but this was sent to my non-UW e-mail.anna8506 wrote:Congrats on the scholarships!

The grant is a federal grant based off of fafsa directly. I guess we just wait for financial aid to tell us if we are poor enough. The email did say very soon, so there is hope right?zephyr12 wrote:164/3.86 - accepted back on 1/31

Re: University of Washington C/O 2017 (2013-2014 Cycle)
Got a scholarship email last night, 30k spread over three years, so only 10k a year (and I'm out of state) 165/3.5. I am quite disappointed about this offer because I have received larger scholarships from similarly ranked schools (20-25k a year) as well as $30k a year from Lewis & Clark and U of Colorado. UW is (or was) my first choice but I don't know if I can justify going when I have the option of paying only 10k a year at other schools.
Has anyone had any luck negotiating their scholarship? I have hear UW is pretty stingy. I guess now I am trying to decide if it is worth going to the higher ranked school with more debt or the lower school with less haha.

Just got an email saying i received no merit based scholarships, and that they will reassess my merit aid on may 1 (after I will deposit at another school that give me aid... so no thanks) Over both 75ths, out of state but grew up in Seattle.
I'm bummed, I got great money at USC and some other not as good schools, so I was expecting something decent from UW and it was a top choice. Now i am regretting that I already bought my tickets for asw as I will definitely not be able to attend at out of state sticker price. feeling bitter guess they didnt like my scholarship essay or somethin'
