I don't know how you guys stay sane during the waiting!

I only submitted mine like 2 days ago and sometimes when I see an email I'll get excited even though deep down I know I have a long wait ahead of me. :(

I submitted in December but they waited for my December score. So I have only been "complete" since Friday.

I'm struggling! I live in Dallas, so I feel tempted more and more each day to politely go over to SMU and see what's up ;)

lol me too, I work on mockingbird like a few miles from there. I'm applying to the PT program so I went to one of there PT information sessions a while back to try to get some facetime but didn't get anything more than a handshake because they were busy.

I've been looking at last years waiting thread to see the approximate times when they send everything out. I know it'll vary but at least it gives me something to do.

Are you planning to live in Texas after law school?

Hey fellow SMU applicants,

I'm struggling with how to approach the optional admissions essay. My Personal Statement kind of functions as a diversity statement, commenting on my experiences and the perspective it gives me.

The Optional Admissions essay, which it says is necessary for a scholarship based on "accomplishments, experience, background" is basically asking the same thing, which has been given in my Personal Statement.

Should I just expand on my background and experiences? Hoping for some advice. (Stats: AA male URM, 161, 3.27)

Possibly expand upon diversity related stuff you mention in PS? For what it's worth, I did not write the essay, and I still received a scholarship.

EDIT: 100th post

I kind of felt the same. For my optional essay, I took a single piece of my personal statement and wrote about that, correlating it specifically with how it would make me a better lawyer.

For example - if your personal statement talks about how you had to work two jobs to put yourself through college, then your optional essay might talk about what it means to miss out on certain things for financial reasons and how that will help you bring that perspective and empathy to your clients.

Or, if you talk about your background in scientific research in your PS, then expand about how a thorough understanding of the scientific method is going to provide a unique perspective in practicing law.

Try to make specific correlations if you can.

Good luck!
