Thats insane. According to mylsn u were a shoe in. Unless u were the third Boston bomber or some other Egregious C&F ding, is it YP? Can things have gotten so bad now that someone with a 3.6 is getting YPed if he has a 170+?
I'm gonna be honest, I think TLS thinks there's way more YP going on than there actually is. I'd bet there's actually very little YP going on at all. Think about it: denying kids for YP considerations lowers your acceptance rate and raises your matriculation rate (good things), but it also negatively impacts your admitted student profile. I think that the admitted student profile is more important and weighs more heavily into rankings than acceptance rate or matriculation rate. There isn't really a great and trade-off-free reason to YP. It's a TLS hive mind phenomenon more than anything else.

(I currently work in admissions and financial aid, in case you're curious)
I dont disagree, but in the absence of some serious C&F or even minor, how can we rationally explain that ding?

That is a good question, and tough to explain. Perhaps a misspelling on the resume? Perhaps a very weak personal statement? Perhaps the admit pool for GULC this year has been particularly strong on the LSAT and particularly weak on GPA, and at this point in the cycle they are more GPA hungry than LSAT hungry?

As much as I like the idea that YP doesn't happen, I don't really know what any other explanation would be, unless they caught a error/misspelling/were looking for something I didn't have that was not noticed by any of the higher-ranked schools to which I've been accepted (http://lawschoolnumbers.com/allalexallday if anyone is really that curious). And in this case, they're right, I didn't have any intention of going given my other acceptances.

Last status change was 2/18. The acceptance was sent via snail-mail letter to my parent's house (not where I am living) so I had my mom open the letter. I was pretty sure it was a ding or a WL because it was small. Fortunately not the case.

Sorry to be idiotic, but can you talk about this a little more?

I wasn't aware that the admitted student profile factors into the rankings, I thought it was just matriculant data. Or am I grossly misinterpreting the methodology?

I just read through the breakdown of the rankings, and I read it as if YP makes perfect sense... but I'm dumb, so there's that...

I was a 2/4-5-6 held person and got special priority waitlisted (makes me think of double secret probation) today... How many of us will have our numbers come up?

I've racked up four WL's, one PR (Duke), and one reject. Still, 7 WL's is horrendous...

Thank you for the love! At this point I want to see how many I can get. It is quite hilarious and just my luck.

I'm on 4 t14 waitlists... Good chance of picking up #5 with Gtown. The gods must really hate us Cal grads, I mean they already gave us Sonny Dykes last year.
