It seems to be taking longer now. But don't worry, it is worthless.

haha ok, that makes me feel a bit better! thanks!

It's not much, just letting you know if you are complete or not. I was 2/7 submit -> 2/22 status checker email. But I was a UT undergrad with a UT EID so not sure if that would have speeded things up.

Interesting...one of the things that worried me about Texas is its conservatism. I know Austin can be liberal (native Texan here), but it's also the most segregated city in Texas (URM here) so that worries me. I just don't know if it's a fit for me culturally.

UT undergrad URM here. You will have no problems. The campus and city is very open minded. It might be a very segregated city but I can assure you I've never, ever had a problem with racism. You might not like our state politics, but I then again, I don't know anyone that really does. I came from Houston, one of the most diverse cities in the US. I did feel the difference in population of the Austin area, but it's not something I would say is negative. Campus is just like Houston in terms of diversity.

Austin does feel like segregated city though I'm not sure you could say it's the most segregated in Texas.

Some of that is due to historical segregation and the fact that the height of racial tensions in the 1950s and '60s coincides with the acquisition of land for and construction of interstate 35. Once in place, the interstate created an imposing border between minority (mainly AA and MA) East Austin and white Central and West Austin. Combine that with Austin's relatively small AA community (8% compared with Houston and Dallas at 25%) and even absent any segregation, the city will never feel very diverse with respect to AA's. The I-35 split has been changing in the last decade-and-a-half that I've lived here, as many young people have moved into East Austin, but to some extent that also leads to a displacement of some minorities.

The Latino community in Austin, however, has been growing and has done so by moving into East, South, and North Austin neighborhoods, some of which are heavily integrated neighborhoods from a racial perspective... but that's where you get into the true segregation in Austin, which is economic. Austin's central core and the hills to the west are significantly more affluent than points East, North, and South. To the extent that affluence in America as a whole and industries centered in Austin (tech, entertainment) has racial bias, you can see a racial segregation to parallel the economic segregation.

Sorry, didn't mean to give that title. I was referring to this article that came out a while back calling it that.

Native Dallasite here (not a big fan of Texas in general) and I got into UCLA so I'm just trying to be honest with myself and decide which culture I fit in best with. I guess visits will help me decide.

Austin is really kind of one of those places that you can read all about and still know nothing about. I recommend a visit. A trip for SXSW would do wonders for you I'm sure!

Hopefully the weather stays beautiful all week. I'm heading over to Austin today for SXSW :) . A decision from UT would make my day even better, but since I only got processed 2/27 i'm not holding my breath.

Looks like a cloudy weekend but awesome weather next week. What days of the week have acceptances been phoned out?

Unfortunately for me I was admitted mid January and haven't received a scholarship offer, so it looks like I'm not getting anything upfront. UT was my top choice but now I'm really considering some other offers...

try sending all other offers you are considering to UT to ask for a match. you have ONE shot according to their policies. if you are really into UT like i am :) and can demonstrate that interest to them i'm sure you will get something !!

I could see GULC getting jumped in 5 years or so. The TX market is just chugging along!

I think unless Cornell gets its medians up it will be jumped, although I think GULC is the proper one to drop out. It just seems more likely that Texas jumps Cornell at the rate things are going.

I'd like to see Texas STAY in the T14 more than arrive at it again

For those recent admits who are still worrying about $$$ info, here is the good news:

i was admitted on 3/7 and this afternoon i received my $$$ email from UT Law with big "congratulations" in the header.

In state tuition waiver + $1,000 per year (pure courtesy gesture..) so a total about $51,000 over the three years.

Not bad :) :)
