I am pretty sure most grad programs don't do grants, maybe public schools. I could be wrong but when I asked FIN AID about this last year they said they don't offer grants.

From what I've been able to tell, you'll find out about any financial aid package when you receive your acceptance email. That's what happened with mine and that's what should probably happen with yours. It might be worth calling admissions if you want to confirm that.

+1 a few random ones do, GTown comes to mind and I believe HYS does as well. Not sure about any others.

Still under review and anxiously awaiting a decision! I interviewed about a month ago as well. For now I'll tell myself no news is good news, but damn do I want a decision haha. Anyone else in the cohort of the interviews a month ago that didn't get a decision today either?

I was waitlisted. Major letdown.

Good luck to those still waiting and congrats to the admits!

Greetings TLSers~

As you see from the posts, we released a range of decisions today. If anyone would like to talk about their file, please feel free to contact me directly.

Regarding "grants". All of our scholarship money comes in the form of merit scholarships. So, you're financial aid package will be comprised of funds from the following sources up to the total cost of attendance:
1) Federal Stafford loans up to $20,500
2) Merit Scholarship
3) Grad Plus loans (up to cost of attendance)
4) Family or Student contribution

We do not award need based grants. Nor are there other scholarship awards beyond the ones awarded in your initial award letter and a couple of private scholarships. Recently you got an email about the Rose and Hearn scholarship funds. The recipients of these awards are selected by the donor from those candidates who submit completed materials by the deadline. You may find a list of named scholarships on our website. The scholarship funds are applied to the merit scholarships we award upon review of your application. They are not awarded in addition to those scholarships but are the source of the funds for some of the merit scholarships. If your scholarship ultimately is derived from one of these funds you will be notified around the time school starts.

I've written about this in the past but hope that students will keep in mind that scholarship funds are awarded to advance our institutional goals. These goals are varied and have to do with the composition of the class and maintaining our rank and reputation. Every dollar awarded is intended to enhance our class profile. If both of your numbers are below our medians I wouldn't expect a huge scholarship. Another case might present one compelling factor and not another. In that case one might not expect to be awarded as much as someone with both numbers. It's just the way things work. We fully acknowledge that legal education is a tough sell these days, but this isn't a Circuit City GOB Sale. We anticipate that candidates might view the cost of attendance as an investment in their education and future.

Reconsidering scholarships is something we are willing to do upon a showing that other more compelling offers exist for each individual applicant. To be compelling a competing offer will most likely come from a peer institution and will definitely put an applicant in a better financial position. Lower or similar offers from "higher ranked" schools are not compelling. I cannot compensate you for rank or location. We'll both be dissatisfied in the end. For reconsideration candidates should submit a reconsideration form along with copies of your other offers.

If your application has been under review for a longer than expected time, please feel free to email me directly. I am happy to check on the status of your application. There are a number of reasons it may take longer to make a decision on a file. I am happy to research your situation. Still as I've said before in this process no news is good news.

Warm regards,

I wonder how many people apply for those 2 scholarships? I am a hopeful entrant.

I'm definitely hopeful too! I hope it goes to someone who is actually committed on attending Wake, like myself! :)

Last year was over 130 Rose applicants and about 90 for the Hearn.

There is usually between 4-6 finalists. The donor then decides how they want to distribute the money among the finalist.

It says for both: "A preference is given to those who are the first in their families, excluding siblings, to pursue a law degree and can demonstrate a strong financial need for the scholarship."

Does this mean a preference is given to those who are the first in their family to go to law school, or just preference is given to those whose parents did not go to law school? I have a sibling who went to law school, but my parents did not. Does this mean my app is given preference? :?

As long as your parents didn't go, siblings are not included. You should be good to go.

Submitted my scholly reconsideration request today. I'm praying that my high GPA and other offers can sway them to bump my 10k up another 10k possibly. I hope Wake can see that I want to be in Winston Salem more than anything! Hoping for the best!

Do you guys think ASD is important to attend? It's going to be really hard for me to attend with my new job and all. I'm 90% sure I'll be going to WF in the Fall. Should I try to attend ASD, or just visit in the Spring (probably in April)?
