I was pleasantly surprised when the email came through this afternoon. Running the numbers tonight, my out-of-pocket costs for the three years (assuming 10% increase in tuition per year and 5% increase in living expenses) would be less than $7,000. That's compelling except for Wake's unsteady employment stats. For example, the median private sector salary in 2012 was $67k. For comparison, Emory Law's median private sector salary is $100k.

I would seriously question that media salary amount for any school, let alone Emory.

And honestly, it's about what you want. I haven't read Emory's stats, but from what I've read on here they are notorious for employing their own graduates. That being said, it's all about risk. You can risk taking on more debt in hopes of getting a high(er) paying job, or you can take the full ride with maybe a smaller chance of making 100k+, but you won't have the debt.

Neither choice is bad in my opinion. You just need to figure out what you want to do, I guess.

I don't know how much debt you'd be taking on at Emory, but keep in mind they place primarily in Atlanta and I think NYC. $100k per year won't be all that special with debt and ATL or especially NYC cost of living. $67k starting in Winston, Charlotte, Greensboro, etc. with little or no debt would make up much of the difference, if not all of it.

That being said, a 165/4.0 probably gets you really good $ at someplace like Emory, and if it wasn't WAY more, I'd probably do Emory.

After a 5 1/2 month wait, I finally received my decision on Monday--accepted with a $27k/year scholarship. I will be withdrawing soon, though, so hopefully the money goes to another deserving candidate.

Anyone get an extension on deposit deadline? I'd love to go to Wake but I want to visit first... but finding a day free where I'm allowed to take off work and a cheap enough ticket is preventing from making an impulse trip out there.

Not sure if anyone here has asked, but know in last year's thread they said no to any extensions.

In case any of you guys are still agonizing over the employment stats (like me), I thought it would be helpful to take a bigger-picture view by looking at Wake's performance over the past 5 years vs. schools who will be offering the most competition in nearby states:

In order, here are the 5-year averages of the percentage of graduates in long-term, full-time, bar-passage-required, non-school-funded jobs:

Georgia: 72%
North Carolina: 71%
Wake Forest/George Washington/Tennessee: 68%
South Carolina: 67%
Emory: 66%
William & Mary: 64%
Richmond: 61%*
Washington & Lee: 58%
George Mason: 54%

This doesn't answer all my concerns, but it shows that in the long-term, Wake is still among the better choices in the region. I applied to and was accepted at 6 of these schools, and Wake was the cheapest because of the $ they throw out. Hope this serves as some comfort for those of you matriculating this fall :)

How did you calculate the percentages?
