Cardozo is looking more and more like the school I'll be going to. I can't make it to ASD on the 20th and still have no idea where I'm going to live, but I wasn't offered anything better.

Notify them immediately. I was in the same percentile and scored a full ride.

I already wrote a LOCI and I'm not sure what else to say that won't just be repeating myself. They get updated score reports, I'm worried they'll just be annoyed if I send another email...

Dear Admissions Committee,

All that other stuff in my last email, plus look at my new score and let me in with lots of money.

Thanks, Pattycake

Yeah. I'm in the same boat. I haven't heard back from any of the higher ranked schools and I'm now on a time crunch bc I got into May. I'll have to make some decision end of march.

Hoping the school will reimburse my entire two night stay. Hotels are not cheap in union square.

Has anybody successfully negotiated with Carodozo this year yet? I'm wondering how long it typically takes them to get back to you, and whether or not you were successful in receiving a higher scholarship.

I got into Cardozo with a full ride and BLS with partial but I'm nervous about career opportunities. I'm still waiting to hear back from a bunch of places but I doubt I'll get any scholarship offers at this point. I visited Cardozo on ASD a few weeks ago and met a bunch of 3Ls with no job prospects at all especially if you're not looking into IP. Any thoughts?

could you elaborate more? scary.

Sure. I mean this could be more a symptom of the legal field in general right now but Cardozo is big on IP not so much OCI. They said as much. The student who led our tour was a 3L who said that 50% of graduates graduate with offers, keep in mind mostly in the public sector, and the other 50% choose to put their legal degree to "a more creative use," not necessarily practicing law. I took that to be a very diplomatic way of saying that literally half of their graduating class is going to be unemployed. We then broke off in groups with current students for a q and a. When asked, the 3L who was sitting with our group said very plainly that she has no job lined up. During the panel discussions with admins and students, we heard a lot about opportunities for non-profits and virtually nothing about recruitment. The career adviser said that the school doesn't control who recruits from them which may be correct but they don't exactly have the greatest network...
It is extremely concerning. That's my hesitation with Brooklyn because even though it's ranked a lot lower, they are much better networked... Obviously if I get into any of my higher schools (long shots, all of them) I would have to decide if it's worth giving up a full scholarship... There are no guarantees

TTT is TTT. a school where its students have 1 in 2 chances of landing a legal job - much less a good legal job - but that still has the audacity to charge its students 50,000+ in tuition is nothing short of criminal.

TCR is stay away.

Lol I think I was in your small group on ASD, because I remember the 3L girl saying that too. But I just want to echo everything you just said. A lot of info on public interest type work, minimal focus on private law. One other kid in our group straight up said he was at Dozo because of the scholarship offer he got and couldn't find anything else to substantiate why he was a Cardozo student.

That's not true. We heard a lot about the "brotherhood" and feeling of family. That's super important!

LOL. If I want brotherhood, I'll sign up for the marines. Also, NYC is way too cold and way too expensive for just brotherhood. I was that kid from Florida that made everyone crack up because I was nagging about the cold btw.

Lol I totally remember you. Anyway, yeah pretty much all Cardozo has to offer is some good scholarship money but you gota decide if you're willing to trade a solid job opportunity for that.

I've highlighted TCR's here to emphasize several facts (disclaimer: I am one of those "public sector" people whose had great success with 'dem PI jerbs...and also a full ride with mitigated COL costs): a) if you don't want to practice in NYC, don't come here, period; b) if you don't want to practice in IP or PI, don't come here, period; and c) do not pay sticker, period.

What are you talking about with "networked" schools? 'Dozo and BLS are seen on much the same level in general (as is Fordham, but shhhh, don't tell them that). What you should really be looking at is each respective school's placement in the particular sector (again, in NYC) that you want to go into. 'Dozo trumps BLS in IP jobs. That's its niche. 'Dozo also trumps BLS in PI jobs in Manhattan whereas BLS trumps 'Dozo in PI jobs in Brooklyn. 'Dozo's PI market is largely criminal in nature whereas BLS struck me as having a little more of a balance in terms of placement.

Like any regional school, 'Dozo can be absolutely right for you or absolutely wrong for you. ITE, there really isn't an in between anymore.

I don't even know what this means. We're in New York. This is a figment of that 3L's imagination.

Not necessarily mutually exclusive. From my friends who did OCI, it doesn't sound like they did very well. I don't know the exact % of our 2L class who got SA's this summer. Personally I think the BigLaw or bust kids take a greater risk coming here. I'd work on bumping up that almost full scholly to full. And I'd highly suggest trying to figure out how to mitigate COL costs.

Again I'm PI in Manhattan-bound and even did this assuming the PSLF program was solid and surprise, Obama's budget proposal calls for a serious gutting of that program, so I'm very glad I went the smart route rather than the "preftigious" route.

I'm a current 2L at Cardozo, checking into TLS for the first time in a while. Without question, OCI is not going to be fruitful for anyone not in the top 5-10% of the class. My experience is that those facing poor job prospects haven't taken advantage of externships/clinics and/or haven't networked (unless they're at the bottom of the class, then that's a lose-lose). If you're willing to work hard academically and professionally, you'll do well being situated in a legal market like NY. 0Ls, feel free to PM me for more info on Cardozo or law school in general.

Do those that are currently attending Cardozo have any gripes or regrets about selecting Cardozo? Did you turn down a higher ranked school, and if so, why (other than scholarship $$$)?

Admitted with 25 k per year. I'm super nervous/excited.

How bad is it if I don't go to ASD? I already booked my flight to go to Wake Forest and I just can't make it work...

ASD doesn't really matter. They're not going to rescind your acceptance if you don't go.

Gripes with the school? Sure (everyone's going to have some issues with the school they attend). I don't regret coming here, and I did turn down a higher ranked school to live closer to home and be in the NYC market.

Nope. It is my understanding after talking to current and past May students that they don't really give money to May students. They might give a little but that's about it.

Ah that's disappointing, thanks for the info. I'm probably going to give them a call tomorrow to see what they have to say about it.

Admitted for may w 40k per year, 3/28 deadline, would have to quit 50k+ paralegal gig with great firm in 2 months (planned to save until sept or keep working in evening program), haven't heard anything at all from a few other schools (bites nails down to bone)...
