Re: Cardozo C/O 2017 Applicants Thread (2013 - 2014 Cycle)
Hello! So, this is my first post on the site. I registered to say hello to other Cardozo admits.
I'm seriously considering Cardozo at this point, although I still need to hear from a number of other schools. My two strongest criteria are (1) location (and NYC is my top choice) and (2) minimal debt (I'm not interested in big law slavery). Cardozo is in a terrific location, and I have a full scholarship, guaranteed, so it is the front runner by a decent margin.
A couple questions:
(1) Does Cardozo ever give stipends? I saw a couple posts in reference to this, in this topic, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus. It seems that Cardozo tells you they do not, and yet there are anecdotes of students who have received them.
(2) Is anyone looking for a potential roommate? I've been out of college for a couple years and am not really interested in living in their student housing. I've looked around a bit for neighborhoods I would like. Williamsburg is my style of place (chill, but easy to get into Manhattan) and is also super close to Cardozo by subway, ~15 min. UES and Midtown seem to be a bit more expensive. But I've never lived in NYC, so I would of course work with a potential roommate on this.
I've read, and it certainly makes sense to me, that having a law school roommate is a great idea.
If you are looking for a roommate, feel free to pm me! I haven't made my law school decision yet, but I figured it might be a good idea to throw this out there. I plan on being at the ASD on March 20th, so if you are there we could meet. Also, I'm a guy. I figure this might be important information.
Look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi!
This is my first time writing in this forum. I'm really interested in Cardozo. I was waitlisted almost two weeks ago but asked to be considered for the may part time program. Has anyone else done this and heard back?

This makes me anxious. Was waitlisted and asked to be considered last Tuesday. Hopefully we'll all hear back soon.stannyc wrote:I second this.cshadow wrote: at least 3 weeks

I just got accepted. I went complete on 2/17 and was accepted by phone call 2/26. Full tuition scholarship! (PM for #'s)
Anyone contemplating any housing options not in Manhattan? Curious what the best options are. I don't know NYC too well. All I know is I want my commute at or less than 40 min via public transport. I also need some space because I have a 60lb dog and a fiance coming too if I accept and would rather not get rid of either of them.

You want to find an affordable place within a 40 min subway ride of Manhattan? Damn, good luck. Maybe try Brooklyn?RonBurgundy wrote:I just got accepted. I went complete on 2/17 and was accepted by phone call 2/26. Full tuition scholarship! (PM for #'s)

You could try Brooklyn, but that won't give you a ton of "space" for a dog. Other options would be Hoboken, as the commute via the PATH train is not too bad and Hoboken is a cool town that is more affordable than Manhattan. You could also try some areas of Queens. Astoria is a little pricier than the rest of queens, but it has close proximity to the city, and is much cheaper than Manhattan and some parts of Brooklyn. If you could deal with a much longer commute, you could even look at something like Yonkers which would be accessible via Metro North.philipthegreat wrote:You want to find an affordable place within a 40 min subway ride of Manhattan? Jersey City or Hoboken? Not much is really cheap anymore...philipthegreat wrote:You want to find an affordable place within a 40 min subway ride of Manhattan? Damn, good luck. There's plenty of housing opportunities in Queens and Brooklyn well within 40 minutes of campus. With Cardozo being near Union Square, there's plenty of trains that go to that area. I would look at Long Island City or Astoria in Queens. Both neighborhoods are nice with some nice bars too and are very close to subways you can take to get to class. The prices are cheaper than manhattan and you get more space.RonBurgundy wrote:I just got accepted. I went complete on 2/17 and was accepted by phone call 2/26. Full tuition scholarship! (PM for #'s)

As for brooklyn, Williamsburg is nice, however, if you are one of those people that hates hipsters, you'll hate the neighborhood cause it's the hipster capital of the city right now. Like the Queens neighborhoods, the subways are right there. All these neighborhoods are nice and have a lot of young couples moving into them.
I live in Queens so I'm quite familiar. You can always try Jersey, which will probably be even cheaper, but the flip side is, it's Jersey.
