Also checking in. ED, just got my fee waiver...I was waiting for it before I applied.

Almost done with the app now, finishing touches on the PS and DS. I'm still waiting on one rec, should be there next week but good thing the CAS can be sent a little later if needed.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Just to confirm, "Your application is currently in the queue for review by the Admissions Committee" is different than actually under review, yes? It sounds like some of you had that top status description changed at some point in the process.

RD, if anyone actually cares.

Has anyone who received a fee waiver applied to Penn in a past cycle? Those with numbers both below and above mine seem to be getting waivers, but I have not. Tried soliciting, but received the standard response.

If you think about it, it makes sense for them to give waivers to people who have either relatively high or relatively low numbers.

Checking in. How many of those optional essays did you all do? I ended up submitting 2 of 3, the ones where I felt I had something interesting to say.

I just did one - which was a sort of "Why Penn"

For reference, my GPA's slightly off their 75th and my LSAT is slightly off their median, and I haven't gotten one. So maybe this goes back to the point that they're aiming for people who wouldn't ordinarily apply to get waivers, since presumably somebody with around my numbers wants Penn.

Hi y'all, question:

So I was planning to apply ED round 2 after hearing back from my first ED school, but after having some buyers remorse over my first ED decision, I think I'm just gonna apply regular now. Still, I want to make sure I'm doing everything else possible to boost my chances at admittance. I've written a diversity statement, and was gonna do the Fitts essay, but I think a lot of it would overlap with my PS. So my question is whether it would be a good or bad idea to tailor the end of my PS to read sorta like a 'Why Penn.' I think I could do it in a way that would sound natural, I'm just wondering if that's a thing that just isn't done. Thanks!

Hey Penn, I love you, but, keeping me under review is making me a panicked mess. I really would just like to find out that I will be riding the waitlist. Thanks.

Generally that is considered a bad idea. The ps should have a central theme, and if that central theme is not why penn, then tailoring the end to why penn does two things. First, it simply comes off as contrived and "tacked on", because it was. Second, it weakens the impact of your central theme, because you are spending your final words trying to turn it into a why penn essay instead of really closing well with you central theme.

A better place for this would be in the supplemental essays. There is not a specific why penn prompt, but there are several that could be slightly tweaked to demonstrate your interest in penn.

As a side note, this question was asked in the "ask an admissions counselor" thread, and Karen Buttenbaum, former head of Harvard admissions, advised against tailoring your ps into a "why x" essay.

Anybody here has an idea if submitting late in the cycle with a feb lsat score retake would still have a shot for penn? This is one of my choices.

Mine went to Under Committee Review today!! So nervous! If I get accepted... I will be so happy. I think I'm right on the bubble of acceptance (3.44 GPA, but a 3.92 from degree granting institution, 171 LSAT). I wrote all the essays, and think my personal statement is really strong. Also applied ED. MAN I WISH THERE WAS MORE I COULD DO!!
