I'm confused. If you had a prior offer on the table, then why didn't you just either respectfully accept by depositing or decline it? What else did you need? Unless I'm missing something?

i guess they just weren't feeling the attempt at negotiation. while i do think its a little shady that they would offer an amount and then turn around and say they have nothing left, i think you (bungles) just took a risk that unfortunately didn't work in your favor, which i guess happens when everyone (schools and applicants) are gaming - in part because, although nobody intends for this to happen, asking for more money can cast one in an unflattering light. that said, if the contact was supposed to call, it was poor form not to call, even if it was only to say penn would not be budging on the scholarship amount.
did you convey to them how much you wanted to go - that you would take money at penn over a dillard?
