You sound like an absolute treat.

And is it clear? Because I don't see much evidence for your "considerably more" theory. Please do let me know if I am wrong, but I think we have seen rejections and WL for numbers that should likely have been admitted at Columbia/Chi all the way down the list this cycle.

So when Penn said that they would have a decision within 8-12 weeks in their initial email they were totally joking, right? (I'm pretty sure November was more than 12 weeks ago...)

Just a heads up...

I responded to Penn's WL e-mail asking them to withdraw my application and I just got an e-mail confirmation of "my intention to be on the Penn Law wait list"

So I guess its an automated system that adds you to the wait list regardless of what you write in your response. Or maybe I was the only one stupid enough to make that mistake. Either way, It kinda made me chuckle.

I was wondering about this- the email said that if we wanted to be on the wait list, to respond directly to the email, but if not, they would assume that if they haven't received an email by April 21st that we don't want to be on the list. I'm not sure how to courteously tell them thanks but no thanks.

I see there was another WL batch.

I'm still UR2 1/28.

So confused.

I told them that I'm withdrawing, and received a withdrawal notice email.

Against all advice I've been told, I called the admissions office. I don't even care at this point whether it's a breach of etiquette or whatever. I have deadlines in less than two weeks.

Anyway, I called and told the clerk on the phone that I had been complete since December and haven't received any updates since Feb. 14, my UR2 date.

Her response was that this was highly unusual - that anyone who submitted back in November/December should have heard back by now. She said there was a chance the application got stuck somewhere in the admissions committee and needed to be pushed along. She ended the call telling me she would pass it on to the adcomms that my application has been sitting around for too long and that I need an answer.

She was very nice, and seemed to understand my frustrations. I don't know whether this will have any ill affect on the decision, but I'm happy I called and had someone recognize that the delay was unacceptable.

Hopefully I'll get something within the next week and a half.

I'm in a pretty similar situation - would you recommend calling at this point? Or do you think your call will act as an impetus for them to clear out all of the November/December completes?

Waitlisted after a December complete. There's the end of my cycle.

I don't plan on staying on the list. Penn gave me the runaround these past four months, interviewed me on Wednesday after I called in, then threw me on the waitlist. I'm not too happy about that, but if it says anything about the school itself, I'll be happy avoiding it.

See you later, Penn. You were a harsh mistress.

Yeah. There's a part of me that wanted to ride it just so that I could maybe turn them down for making me wait so long unnecessarily (mid-Nov complete, UR2 1/28). But ultimately I just don't really care.

I am declining to respond to their email, though.

Yupp. I would have seriously considered Penn if I got in... but its not worth the hassle of the WL.

Ah, the Catch-22 of YP: Put worthwhile candidates on the waitlist because you're not sure if they'd actually attend, but by doing that they end up turning these candidates away from the school completely.
