Did you get off the waitlist at NYU law school or your wife got off NYU for med school and now you're going to a NY law school instead?

Either way, congrats on having your situation figured out and not having to make that shitty commute.

I'm in at NYU. She is in as of 3pm.

Much better situation. Glad that worked out for you.

Is it absurd to think that I can commute most days to South Bend from Chicago? If you were forced to think about commuting, what might you do?

One idea I've thrown around is spending 1-2 nights a week in South Bend and the rest in Chicago.

I'm thinking about doing something similar. I think it's important to note where you are going to be in Chicago, the hardest part of that commute will be within the city limits.

that's an interesting question. probably do-able if you can stack all classes on two consecutive days. Then you can sleep in your car for one night and spend the rest in Chicago
is it possible for 1Ls to stack all classes like this?

No. This isn't undergrad. They give you your 1L classes, and even when it comes to choosing classes, I doubt they are set up with that much flexibility.

I would not recommend commuting from Chicago. That sounds insane. I am aware of people with family up to 2 hours away and what they do is go home every weekend, but they have an apt or studio or some place to sleep in South Bend during the week. It does not take that long to get into Chicago. The Indiana/Illinois state line is 1.5 hours away but the additional drive in the city could make it a 3 hour commute each way.

To echo the posters advising against commuting from Chicago, the Southshore is late all the time. It breaks down frequently in extreme weather, which there has been plenty of lately. No bueno.

I'm waiting for my packet, up but curious if recent acceptances had scholly info in them or emailed after? It's an Emory vs. Notre Dame matchup for me.

Had my first complete on 1/14, second on 1/24, and now third today on 2/28. Does anyone have a similar pattern and have any idea what this means?

Huh. I haven't seen many people go complete three times. Anyone else have three completes?

When I spoke to admission office almost a month ago, they say date update usually happens when application goes in, or moves from one reader to next.
So my conjecture is that if you are a more "maybe" candidate, its likely to be reviewed more.
But I have no evidence to backup my conjecture.

This shit should really be binary... if GPA>x and LSAT>y then admit otherwise reject.
Would save everyone a lot of grief.
Of course I will not get in if that happens ;)

I think ND is one of the few top schools that truly does take a holistic approach to its applicants.

When I spoke with Adcomm, what had been said repeatedly was that ND is in a unique situation where they really need to screen for people that want to come to ND. Let's be honest, it is a commitment in and of itself to come to South Bend. I think if I remember correctly, adcomm were saying that most people applied to like 9 or so schools, but applicants applying to ND applied to like 15+ on average (I dont remember the exact number). So many people applied had no intention of attending at all, but merely sending in another application since it is quite easy to just click click click.

Just got a newsletter email which mentioned that ALL of the merit scholarships that would be awarded had been awarded via email last week. Seemed like a strange thing to say.

I'd imagine this is why they really stress the importance of the "Why NDLS" essay and choosing not to submit one puts you at a major disadvantage. I'm pretty sure my essay played a big role in my offer since I was a definite reach and ND has always been a top choice for me and I was sure to convey that.

I imagine it wasn't entirely true, but here is the text.

"FAFSA Priority Deadline TODAY
All merit-based scholarship awards were issued last week via email (hard copies of the award letters were mailed this week). Notification of need-based scholarships (non-federal aid) will occur in the coming weeks after Notre Dame's Office of Financial Aid has processed all submitted FAFSAs."

Seems strange indeed, that probably meant everyone that've been accepted thus far, and not that anyone who is accepted beyond today will not get any money.

In no way does that mean that all awards that will be awarded have been. Come on man.

In the context of the email, it actually does sound like that. Whether or not it's true.

There is no question in my mind that more will be awarded. However, saying "all merit-based scholarship awards were issued last week via email," (not some, or most) isn't really a "in no way does that mean all awards that will be awarded have been."
