That is probably the people who got their decision yesterday and got their acceptance email today.

Any guesses as to when need-based scholarships will be coming out?

Quick question for the current students:

Is it absurd to think that I can commute most days to South Bend from Chicago? If you were forced to think about commuting, what might you do?

One idea I've thrown around is spending 1-2 nights a week in South Bend and the rest in Chicago.

Not a current student but that seems like it would get exhausting really fast. Not to mention expensive. COL in South Bend is a fraction of Chicago's. Though I imagine you probably have some other factors if this is a scenario you have to consider seriously.

I'm thinking about doing something similar. I think it's important to note where you are going to be in Chicago, the hardest part of that commute will be within the city limits.

Fivestar, yes, this is absurd, you'll hate yourself.

Furthermore, you likely won't want to live anywhere south of downtown, and crossing the city will be a bear. You'd be looking at well over 2 hrs one way. That's not bad once or twice, but when you have to do that multiple times a week you'll quickly grow to hate it--it's an abject waste of time. Additionally, this will impede your ability to really participate in the law school community.

that's an interesting question. probably do-able if you can stack all classes on two consecutive days. Then you can sleep in your car for one night and spend the rest in Chicago
is it possible for 1Ls to stack all classes like this?

Notre Dame should just buy the Tesla "Hyperloop" super train. At 800mph you could commute between Chicago and Notre Dame in about 7min. You know ND has the $$ :)

But for all who are curious, I have a wife who is going to medical school.

That makes a little more sense.

You can visit her on Friday after classes and on weekends.

Commuting that far is pretty crazy if you don't stack your classes on two days. I'm not sure how that works so I'll let the current 1Ls answer that for you.

I think it could work if you have a car in South Bend and a place to stay a few nights each week. That way if you have a 9am class on two of the days, you can just sleep in South Bend. Also, South Bend rents are 1/3 the cost of Chicago rents.

Yes, it's super expensive but so is attending Med School/Law School at the same time so at this point, my wife and I could care less. It will be one billionth of our overall costs. I already commute an hour to school each day.

Yeah but that drive wouldn't be an hour. It would be ~4hours there and back. That's a shit ton of reading time you're missing out on. I'd say Monday-Thursday in South Bend. Friday-Monday Morning in Chicago.

fivestar- drive to SB from Chicago can be anywhere between 1.5hrs to 2.5, depending on the traffic. the chicago skyway is the main bottleneck. its also exhausting as both rush hours have peak truck traffic that you have to watch out for.............

No. This isn't undergrad. They give you your 1L classes, and even when it comes to choosing classes, I doubt they are set up with that much flexibility.

I know that feel, fivestar. If I end up at one of the Chicago schools I'll spend M-F in Chi-town, but I'll drive home on the weekends. I live down by St. Louis.

Did you get off the waitlist at NYU law school or your wife got off NYU for med school and now you're going to a NY law school instead?

Either way, congrats on having your situation figured out and not having to make that shitty commute.

I'm in at NYU. She is in as of 3pm.

Well congrats. Good situation. Enjoy
