Hey fellow future-domers!

Made my deposit a few weeks ago and now I'm just itching to get out to ND this fall! I'm a native New Yorker headed to the Midwest for the first time. Was wondering if anyone had heard some advice about living on campus vs. off and the pros & cons? I'm looking for a friendly living environment (preferably among other law students) that will value the peace & quiet needed for study times, but also game to put the books aside for some well-deserved fun during football season!

Let me know any advice you all have heard about 1L housing. Congrats to everyone who's decided on ND! Looking forward to meeting you in a few short months!

I didn't really look too closely into on campus housing, but some people on here (myself included) are living at the Overlook. It's off campus (on the edge of campus, maybe 10-15min walk) and is graduate student housing, so it will be pretty low key and quiet for studying. It's also brand new this fall, furnished, and includes a workout room, study rooms, and in-unit laundry, with the rent covering all utilities and expenses, even cable and internet. As for football season (which I plan to partake in), much of that will take place in the form of tailgating outside the stadium, which is really close to the Overlook. These are some of the pros for the Overlook. There are some other apartments around town that offer similar graduate student housing (University Edge, I believe) and many others are pretty quiet for studying, I'm sure.

How's the small cafe just outside the law library? Good/reasonably priced food?

Ya, or there's subway/taco hell/pizza hut/burger king at laFun. But usually, there's always free food somewhere at the law school.

+1. I was curious about this as well. And is the library, in particular, open to law students 24/7? I notice they have library hours posted, but then I read something that suggests the library is open to law students 24/7 and the hours might just be "public" hours where it's also staffed.

The building is "open" to law student 24/7 with your id. You just need to swipe yourself in.

I heard of someone interning in DC out of a van for the summer. Just bought a cheap membership at a gym that had a shower for like $20/month. I'm guessing our student fees include access to the ND gym lol

$795/mo for studio. $945/mo for 1BR. This includes all utilities, wifi, cable.

I've got a meal plan. I'd guess about 1/4 of our class got one for 1L year. The dining hall food is actually pretty good. It is super convenient because it is close to the law school and I don't usually have time or want to make dinner for myself every night.

The cafe in the commons of the law school is decent. I haven't ate there that much. Some people like it a lot. I think for 5 bucks you can get a sandwich and chips. I mainly just go there for coffee.

If you're referring to applying for them oyu need to go to studentloans.gov and sign in. Complete the entrance counseling and MPN. Then you can apply for a loan. I got a preliminary approval email the same day.

How hard is it to find last minute housing for under $600 a month? As in two or three weeks before school starts?

A bit surprised but I just received an email about my continued interest yesterday followed by an interview request for tomorrow. I'm already deposited at WUSTL, but ND is an excellent school as well so if they beat my current merit scholarship there's a good chance I'll be seeing some of you in the fall

Any tips on the interview? If anyone remembers what questions came up / how long it lasted / any misc advice I'd be most appreciative. Went through the first ~30 pages of this thread looking for interview info and didn't find much.

I wouldn't bank on it especially with undergrads looking for places too. But it's probably not impossible.
