If you have legitimate reasons for wanting NU and you clarify those reasons through LOCIs and your hold response form, then you will be admitted. If they read your LOCI/Hold stuff as being generic things that everyone is writing (prestige, Chicago, small class size) then it won't make any difference. NU has all sorts of interesting offerings for you to research. Have you let them know why exactly you want to go there?

If you want to go, let them know!

Dear Northwestern: a hold is not a decision.

Seriously, they email everyone that they are done reviewing your application, and a decision letter is ready, and then you open the letter and it says.. they're not done reviewing, and they don't have a decision yet.

I know that I'm not in the shoes of those, who have been held, but the fact that so many people with good numbers were held says that NU is looking to measure applicant interest.

Held 168/3.49 Really only applied because of their free app from the website. Not sure why they didn't just reject me.

In via email.

Submitted and completed 1/28.

GPA > 75th, LSAT 75th.

I applied too late for an off-campus interview and I live in CA, so yeah.

Held. Bah.

My numbers were a stretch, but it would have been nice. At least it's not completely over.

Similar numbers here, just with quite a few more years work experience. There may be hope for us yet, but I'm with you... c'mon Texas.

I think this is probably the case. I got in last year.

Question: If you initially wrote a Why X essay and are held/placed on WL, should you still write a LOCI?

Yes. Do some research and see where NU's offerings correspond to the interests that you've represented to them in your app. Make those connections explicit. That's the story of me sitting pretty.

Held! Complete January 2nd 2014.

Does anyone know how many actually get in off the wait-list?

Also Held.

Edit:

What is the preferred means of sending an additional letter of recommendation?

Beginning in January, we expect to complete our re-evaluation of those candidates who have chose to remain on hold. At that time, you will be notified whether you have been admitted, denied or placed on the waitlist...

This leads me to believe that ED holds will get another decision (relatively soon?) indicating a final status. Can any of you recent holds provide more information on the language in your letter? Do you have to fill out the online response? Is there any indication about when a final decision (WL/A/D) will be reached?

TL;DR - Are the holds coming out now the same as the ED holds that came out in December?

Mine said to fill out the form and we will get more information later on. It also said expect a decision by the April 2nd. It could be that day or even before. No way to really predict

Your hold letter said that yesterday? Mine did not say to expect a decision by April 2, but to make sure to have filled out the "hold response form" by that date. For decisions, it said that it will complete the re-evaluation of our apps "beginning in April"- way more vague.

What is the best way to send a LOCI? Email, I'm guessing?

Didn't it say that they'll be sending us a questionnaire in the next week or so? I imagine that's the time to send the LOCI.

They did. That's what I was thinking, too.
