Great advice/optimism :D

I'm from socal too, just buy proper cold weather gear and you'll be fine. The city is way cooler than anything that exists in socal and more than outweighs the weather.

Good to know, I'm sick of LA.

Chicago is way better than LA, IMO. I'll take the cold weather with it any day.

Finals aren't till the second week of December, but 1L is going well!

I was under the impression that November was crack down time in anticipation of finals.

Just had my alumni interview - ngl, you guys made me think it was going to be way more intense than it was. More serious than the interviews I did with Georgetown and Vanderbilt, but still! The man I interviewed with took the time to introduce me to some fellow alumni who were in the area, and every single one of them seemed so down to earth and nice - obviously they actually like each other. Definitely a plus for NU! Loving the idea of studying at the library and looking out over Lake Michigan...

Earlier on in the thread someone posted the things the interviewer is meant to look for. I didn't think my interviewer followed the 'script' too closely, but its probably worth a read-through! At the heart of it, though, mine wasn't much different than the other two, except that dressed up more. I had also just come from work, but that seemed more appropriate anyway.

Is it safe to assume that the fee waiver that people applied for NU in the beginning of the application process is the same one that rolls over to now be applicable until the 28th instead of the 15th? Or would we have to re apply for a new fee waiver code?

How much did people write for the two "Career Interests and Goals" section? Is it alright to only have a sentence or two, even if you're not getting close to the maximum character count? Am I over-thinking this (probably)?

overthinking it. A couple sentences is totes fine. I recommend a response along these lines:

Short term career goals: I want to be a lawyer.

Longterm career goals: I want to be an (older) lawyer.

Current 2L checking in. Good luck to you all.

Also, you are all probably already aware (since it's linked to in your OP), but there is a thread where you can ask questions of current students here:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=142200

It's also a great resource just to search through since most general questions have been asked by generations of 0Ls before you. Again, good luck. I'm rooting for you!

I had my interview 3 weeks ago and my application is still not complete. Is it time to shoot them an email or are other people experiencing the same thing?

Question: last week, when my app went complete (I guess my interviewer sent in my evaluation) I had text at the top of my checker saying something along the lines of "your app is complete. please allow 6 to 8 weeks (from December 1) for processing of your app."
Now my checker just says "Your application is now complete and is being reviewed by the Admissions Committee." (the current status date now says 11/11)

Do you think this means I can expect to hear back sooner than late January?

Depends. The best answer is that you'll hear when they've made a decision. I know that's unsatisfactory, but you'll learn that for all other sc hools, not just NU, the status date changes every time your file is accessed for anything, adding supplementary docs, new LOR's, etc. It doesn't indicate the actual stage of the decision process (although you can guess a bit).

You have two ways of alooking at this: either let it go and relax b/c there's nothing you can do at this point; or neurotically checking the status checker and speculating every time the date changes. I did the second. Good lucm

obsessively checking and speculating is always fun. But Johann will typically tweet when decisions are going out. You can have an alert on twitter that texts you when his account updates. If you'd prefer not to be tethered to your status checker that is.
