What do people think of the Admitted Students Day in January? You guys going? And do you think its going to be worth while? The event isn't very detailed in terms of what it covers.

Not going, I now live out of state and it's too expensive.

I haven't read up on this or anything, but SCU is close to Cupertino and offers IP law classes. Imagine the internships.... I would assume at least.

Edit: Are they called externships in law school?

In by email just now!

Applied 12/21, Complete 1/8 (I think they were on winter break, because my app was complete when I submitted). Admitted 1/10.

PM for stats.

They're called summer associateships. Apparently they are unhappy if you call them interns, because it's demeaning.
I'm not super sure about the other terms because I think they're not consistent, but I think externship specifically refers to positions in public office (judges, courts, etc), with or without class credit. i.e. Judicial externship can be during the summer or school year, with or without credit, depending on the program.

Let me work in a BigLaw firm doing IP work during the summer work and they can call me "minion" and make me clean the bathrooms at night for all I care :)

Heads up for all interested:
Santa Clara does offer a travel stipend to the Admitted Students Reception in January.
Travel must be a min. of 150 miles roundtrip and the cap is at $250. Attendance at the event is mandatory to receive stipend and funds are only disbursed after the event. Email the admissions office for the appropriate form.
I live too close to qualify... oh well. Thought I might share, anyway.

I'm going! I've toured the campus but I'm looking forward to a tour of the law school and some face-time with faculty. I love the campus overall but, obviously, the law school facilities will be more revealing of what to expect. I'd love to get coffee or lunch with a group of prospectives, if anyone is interested.

Unfortunately $250 would only be a little over half of the trip. :(

Will this also be the case for the second admitted student event in March?

Yes.
The March and April events are covered. The cap for all travel is $250.

Man, I'm not usually on the bandwagon for this, but you need to retake. That's too good of a gpa to throw away at schools like Golden Gate, which I also saw you applied to. Take a couple months, retake in June and hit 160+, reapply next cycle and enjoy money at a good number of schools.

In general yea, but not if you have a good amount of scholarship offers in hand already.

I'm going to try. I have a few scholarship offers already from better schools for more money and no stip so hopefully I can use those for leverage. Just trying to figure out the best way to go about it.

Do you mind if I ask what schools and how much for the ones with no stip? Those are hard to come by it seems.

Hey does anyone think its worth going to the upcoming Admitted Student's Reception?

The description is:
3 p.m. Campus Tour, leaving from the front entrance to Heafey Law Library
4 p.m. Reception, Schott Enrollment Services Presentation Room
Join Dean Lisa Kloppenberg, current students, alumni, faculty and staff for a campus tour and reception in your honor. For all admitted students and their guests.

It doesn't seem like they'll be doing anything major or substantive? Anyone intrigued by what they'll do for reception? Is it like a dinner thing or just a refreshments thing? Gotta figure out if I want to go and take time off work.

University of San Diego gave me $33,000/yr with no stip. I was very surprised because I'm at their median LSAT but a little above the median GPA.

I also applied to Michigan State simply because one of their alumni called me and said I could probably get a full-ride (which I did) and since it's ranked just above SCU, I can use that for leverage as well. They called me so I don't actually have the package yet with the scholarship info and the stip, if there is one.

Besides USD, the other offers I received have 3.0 GPA stips which worries me because, depending on the school, you could easily lose the scholarship.

I'd have room and board taken care of at SCU if I went there so I'm trying to get more $ and eliminate the stip if I can.

Also, on the SCU website they have a "Law Experience Day" in March which seems more worthwhile if you are traveling to visit campus. I'll probably look into that instead.
