Looked to me like Hastings barely gives out a dime in scholarship money, so I guess I'm assuming I won't receive any.

So you're committing to which one of those schools? Or are you committing to SCU? What did you get from other schools?
Hastings wasn't the most generous but it wasn't bad to be honest compared to what SCU gave.

All of them are in the $15k - $28k range. SCU is $20k. I'm going to deposit at all of them but SCU and see if I still want to at SCU when it's deadline time at the end of the month.

When's your deposit deadline for SCU and these schools?

You're going to deposit at 4 schools? Wow thats crazy waste of deposit money.

All of those schools are in the next two days. SCU is the last day of the month for me (I was admitted late).

If I get even one school to increase scholarship money $1,000 a year, I would basically triple my investment.

True but whats your plan to negotiate after you've deposited?

Pretty much the same as anyone's...after depositing and the school seeing who hasn't deposited, they're left with some money to redistribute. By depositing at so many schools, it gives me a bigger shot to land a much larger amount of money from at least one of them.

Lol, same boat. $20 at SCU, and $15-$26 at the rest. And waitlisted for Hastings. AND, I deposited for 4 of them.
Just got a $2,500 bump from USD, and American. So, already worth the $1350 "waste".

Anyways, as of 2 weeks ago, I was pretty locked in for SCU. I got a job as a clerk and the 2 partners who work there says the difference between scu, hastings, davis are negligable for bay area work. thus scu, because it's closest. I work for a 9-attorney firm where all 9 are patent prosecution attorneys. so keep that in mind people, and listen to moonlight as well. only Berkeley changes the game.

I'll be going to admit day #2 on 4/26/2014 since I got in late as well. Wasn't going to that diversity day thing anyways. Anyone else going? I live in San Jose so it's whatever for me!

Yea I thought about depositing for SCU as a second but I figured if I don't then they may actually give me more $$. Plus they have to offer me a lot of money to make it worth it since they have a low scholarship retention rate which is something else to keep in mind.

Sticking with Pepperdine and Santa Clara since they're my top choices for California, but Wake Forest just offered me a very enticing package...

Hmm interesting. Do you think Santa Clara and Pepperdine will offer more even though you deposited?

I don't think Santa Clara will offer anymore. Their initial offer was incredibly generous I think, but I may try since it doesn't hurt.

Definitely will begin negotiating with Pepperdine after the first deposit. While I think it's a great school, it's expensive to live down there and the higher scholarship from wake should hopefully help out.

Santa Clara was generous? I forgot your numbers but I assume you got way more than $20k per year then

It seems Santa Clara is either pretty slow, or at least doesn't review many applications until very late in the process.

just got in today.
SCL has great IP law, but overall school sucks.
all i wanna do is IP law, but don't want to eliminate myself from biglaw chances.
in this case, is it worth it overlooking the overall ranking?

I wouldn't say its worth overlooking the overall ranking and employment stats because you could change your mind. Plus look at the big law firms and IP firms that hire. It's a tough battle out of SCU. I looked at the associate classes for a lot of the SF big law firms and they had usually fewer than 5 SCU law students if that even.

I've got admitted last week, and have a question for those who received scholarship. Did the initial admission letter mention anything about scholarship at all?

thanks. i'm already a patent agent, so there won't be change of heart.
but the competition is a huge concern.

Yea and keep in mind that big law firms hire rarely out of SCU despite its IP focus. Berkeley is obvious IP choice but aside from them, you have to gamble and see if you want to do big law, which I imagine is where patent prosecution is most lucrative.
