did any ED admits get any scholarship money?, I would love to know this, and I'm planning to apply ED next cycle. Thank you so much!

In the WL email, the school claims a WL acceptance rate of 10-25%, depending on cycle. Does anyone know of any data here? I think there's strong reporting bias--people who get in are probably more likely to state their status than people who are denied.

I'm a little bit curious and confused why so many applicants here on TLS withdraw after receiving a WL? Wouldn't you want to stay on the WL just in case you get in (for those who actually want to go to that specific school), or do those people just have better offers and want to give their slot to someone else. Isn't the result of a waitlist withdrawal always an effective rejection.

The result of a waitlist withdrawal is effectively a rejection. I assume that the calculus of one who withdraws from a waitlist goes like this: "If I were to get off of this waitlist with a full ride, would I still turn it down? If yes, withdraw, if not, stay."

Am I correct to assume that chances of admissions are getting quite slim at this point in the cycle for UCLA?

Going by this graph of decision dates, it seems like admits are quickly dwindling to zero towards the end of February/early March.

It looks like that graph has 100 total admits tops. I wonder whether it's representative.

Interview for a scholly tomorrow. I don't know if any of you have gone through that or are scheduled to, but I'll let you know how it goes.

Just finished. It was fairly casual. Over Skype. I wore a shirt and tie. And sweatpants. Definitely have some questions prepared to demonstrate interest in UCLA.

A couple key questions that she asked were:

What markets are you interested in?
Why law?
Tell me about a time where you disagreed with someone/how do you handle disagreement with people in general?
How do you handle losing an argument?

She also asked about other competitive offers, so I told her about those.

Was this for a particular, named scholarship? Or just generally for merit aid? If the latter, that's a little weird.

Yeah, I don't know. Just general merit scholarship I think. Unless I'm being considered for a named one and I just don't know about it, which I doubt. I thought it was a little weird myself. I emailed them a week or so ago about not hearing about financial aid yet, and Talin emailed me back right away saying they'd like to interview me. I think they wanted to see how serious I am about UCLA, especially since I'm from OOS. Like pretty far out of state.

Anyone with merit scholarship from UCLA: is this guaranteed for all three years or is renewal contingent on gpa or class standing, etc?

I got full tuition for all 3 years, contingent on a 2.5 GPA. If you look at LST and UCLA's own website though, typical 100% of people maintain their scholarships, so this is more of a really soft "don't mess up horribly" stipulation.

Furthermore, I haven't been able to find a breakdown of the curve at UCLA but from what I've been told anecdotally, a 2.5 is very maintainable.

Wikipedia says 50% 1L = 3.0 (in 2009-10) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_la ... te_note-20

Oops, I forgot a law student was supposed to call tonight. Was anyone else in on that? I hope they don't take it as rude that I missed the call and didn't have time to call back.

Yeah I spoke to a student. Thought it was a nice gesture on UCLA's part. Good to speak with a 1L instead of a staffer for a bit of input.

Oh, well. I guess missing the call means they can get back to their busy schedules. Glad you enjoyed.

Mine (35k per year) is contingent on having a 2.5 GPA by the end of the academic year. And based on what I've found online/from talking to a couple students, if you have lower than a 2.5 you have to be in something like the bottom 5-10% of the class. Seems very doable to maintain it. Also haven't heard of UCLA section stacking, so that's another plus (but if someone else has, please elaborate/correct me!).

In last week. Anyone know what the schedule usually looks like to hear about scholarships?

Hey guys, I just wanted to clarify something that people had been asking about. I was admitted last week by phone call with NO mention of a scholarship. I got my acceptance package today in the mail, and I was surprised to find a very generous scholarship offer enclosed. So don't worry too much if Dean Schwartz doesn't mention anything over the phone.

If one went complete in mid January and hasn't heard anything does that mean it's probably a waitlist or ding?

I don't think it means anything just yet. It doesn't seem like UCLA has a pattern like some of the top T14 schools. However, it is true that the auto-admits are getting their notifications very quickly.

Hmmm...I wondering what this means for those of us who weren't offered a scholarship over the phone OR in our mailed acceptance package...

Would sending a loci be a bad idea? I never answered any essays on the application.

I don't know it applies in this case, so take it as you will, but during an admissions event a few months ago, the admissions folks said to DEFINITELY send in a LOCI if you are waitlisted and really want to go to UCLA, and that it really does help. So I'm not sure how they feel if you do it while they're still deciding.
