Yeah 3.9 174 here too. There's evidently no real rhyme or reason numbers-wise to it (I did not customize my PS/tailor my recs. Probably hurt.)

What does everyone in FR/UR2 think the faculty/students are looking for in choosing among these ~1200 or so applicants undergoing FR? I think numbers play less of a role here and think PS/whyberk statements are more important (holistic review comes in play?) because the high LSAT/GPA people would have already been autoadmitted by the dean....just a hypothesis

If were in FR would it be bad to send a why Berkeley now/Loci? Do you think they will add it to our application?

From Berkeley's Twitter:

"One-half of total committee files were sent today. No need for LOCIs (please)."

Looking through last year's thread, a few more acceptances might've trickled out, but the majority appear to have been subsequently denied. Based on the Tweet just above, maybe some of us will still be moving to FR, too.

3.9+/173 here in the exact same situation...kind of sucks because Berkeley is one of my top choices and I have very fond feelings towards them compared to other law schools because one of my non-immediate family members graduated from there and went on to do some pretty awesome stuff with his degree (SCOTUS clerk, fed prosecutor, and in house counsel)

Berkeley you are awesome...why won't you love me? :(

So, is it a safe bet that no news is bad news? UR since mid October without any word.

I was happy to get the email about FR. Berkeley is a reach for me, and I thought I was autodinged. I will take that 10% chance! I'm a CA native and would love to stay here.

This is reassuring. Hopefully those of us who were not sent into FR today will be in this latter half. I wonder when we can expect that second half to be sent out?

Hey everyone!

Not that I'm procrastinating on anything, but here are some graphs for the new acceptances and for people who are in FR. I think this shows that FR isn't some sort of "death sentence." Berkeley is known for being very holistic (if you don't believe me, troll around LSN and you'll find people who swept HYS but didn't get Berkeley), but this shows mostly a strong foundation ( ).

Everyone on our spreadsheet:

For science, LSN right now:

KJD:

Not KJD:

Average or below softs:

Above-average softs:

There weren't enough data points to make a useful C&F graph. All of these are URM-excluded (sorry! I wanted to make a URM graph but there wasn't enough data).

The graphs are all pretty uniform (more so than Harvard's), and have most of the acceptances in that upper right quadrant, which is above both medians. So basically--and this is what I've always suspected about Berkeley and Yale--they shored up their medians first, and then sent the apps on to faculty review. This is good, because it lets FR have more freedom in picking acceptances that are below medians--there is a cushion there to absorb them. They also appear willing to take a hit on GPA right now, which means super splitters should fare well in FR :D

Good luck everyone!

FR email here too - GPA is below 25th, LSAT above 75th. Don't really know what to make of it - I've been UR since early november, and figured I was a ding.

All it is saying is that they have sent about half of the FR committee reads to be reviewed (you have to be placed in this by the administration and it shows on your tracker). Presumably another wave will come at a later time. About 1200 go to FR so that means 600 or so have probably been sent. Then they just say they do not want people emailing them updates and essays unless it is necessary

Thanks for the explanation!!

Scoobers, how do you decide the strength of ppls softs?
