Last year the number floating around was about 10% if you make it to committee review, fwiw.gobears!! wrote:I am not sure but i feel like they are the same? The Penn thread is like being in WWI. Thank you Dean Tom for the radio silence - it gives me hope.gobears!! wrote:I am not sure but i feel like they are the same? Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
I bought into Dean Tom's description of Berk as the "Disneyland of law schools," so sometimes when I'm distracted I imagine myself there. I am barefoot with my arms hugging a bag of Trader Joe's granola and a few boxes of coconut water, all balanced on my legal textbooks. Lil B drops by the Tuesday yoga class at 10AM on the Boalt Lawn and asks me and my very attractive friends to guest star in a music video at the local animal shop. I live in a convent repurposed into graduate student communal housing. We eat quinoa. The temperature is always 73 degrees, and life could not be better.Snowboarder1588 wrote:gobears!! wrote:I am not sure but i feel like they are the same? From the Dean Tom interview:PotenC wrote:Can someone expand on what faculty review is?
All the files are read, previewed initially by me or by one of my staff. I have four other people who help me with the application process initially. However, I read the bulk of them. I read about two-thirds of the applicant pool, while the other four read the other one-third. It’s structured this way because I know what I’m looking for. And, if my staff finds an applicant whom they want to admit, they have to bring the file to me for a final review. Concurrent to this review process we also identify about 1,400 to 1,600 other applications that are very competitive, and these we send to our faculty admissions committee, comprised of six faculty and twelve students. Students serve in an advising capacity on the committee. I admit roughly 550 people through what I call the administrative review process, and the admissions committee (the faculty committee) admits about another 200 or so. So, we end up admitting about 700 to 750 people. The admissions committee also structures a waiting list, and then everyone else is denied, either administratively or by the Committee.

I see. So faculty review isn't necessarily geared towards late applicants, right?

FTFY-because you know people at Berkeley are going to be adopting their animals, not buying them .musharraf wrote: I bought into Dean Tom's description of Berk as the "Disneyland of law schools," so sometimes when I'm distracted I imagine myself there. Truth! I've been living in darkness on the east coast for far too long. I am blind, and at Berkeley I will finally see (cough cough Dean Tom, srsly hit me up sometime).koalacity wrote:FTFY-because you know people at Berkeley are going to be adopting their animals, not buying them .musharraf wrote: I bought into Dean Tom's description of Berk as the "Disneyland of law schools," so sometimes when I'm distracted I imagine myself there. Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
Sitting at UR since 12/5...getting very anxious as this is my top choice. I'm sitting at 25th LSAT and >75 GPA.
Is it too early to submit a Why Berkeley or LOCI? I'm going to be starting a new internship/clerkship at an non profit advocacy firm, so I can tie that in as an update to my application. Thoughts?

Same UR date. Personally, I'm curious what the next wave looks like before I get too concerned.omzster67 wrote:Sitting at UR since 12/5...getting very anxious as this is my top choice. I'm sitting at 25th LSAT and >75 GPA.

Included my Why Berkeley in with my application. Not competitive with my numbers so I thought I might as well put all my cards on the table. Wrangling an internship to include for a LOCI is a great update, IMHO. Might have to steal that idea....omzster67 wrote:Is it too early to submit a Why Berkeley or LOCI? Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
I am sure the lengthy wait is only because of the unusual quality of this year's class, Dean Tom has to work out the final logistical details of admitting everyone and creating a satellite Boalt on an incredibly luxurious and antics-filled yacht in the San Francisco Bay, a la The Suite Life On Deck. I'm positive this is the case.emmybee wrote:Such an anticlimactic week!
