Alright sounds good, thanks!BA414 wrote:It appears that all the applicants placed in each FR batch are notified on the same day, at least that's how it was for FR1. Thus, today (2/21) seems to be FR2 Day. We'll have to wait for next week to be sure, though.

When you guys say you have good softs, do you mean you received a Purple Heart, are/was an Olympic athlete, or anything like that?
I was reading some posts on this forum, and people seemed to imply that softs that are not along the lines of what I listed above are worthless, so I'm a little concerned now.

No purple heart or Olympic medal. I think it ranges more of professional career, worked for prestigious places, worked on amazing projects or accomplished something like that. Full Bright Scholars, published a book, etc. That type of thing is what I think of. What about the rest of you? What does good softs imply for you all?samumenco wrote:When you guys say you have good softs, do you mean you received a Purple Heart, are/was an Olympic athlete, or anything like that?

Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
I always took "good softs" to be relative to whatever school you're talking about, that is, better than half the students there. If you have something that makes you stand out --- work experience, professional awards, leadership positions, advanced degrees, interesting projects --- those are all good. An "average" student at a T14 school might be someone who has a couple years of work experience, won some awards, and was leader of at least one college club.samumenco wrote:When you guys say you have good softs, do you mean you received a Purple Heart, are/was an Olympic athlete, or anything like that?

It's about looking beyond the numbers and seeing whether this applicant adds something interesting to the incoming class, and whether this is the type of person you want to represent your school to the world as an alum in three years.

I have bad softs. Unless you consider URM to be a soft.samumenco wrote:When you guys say you have good softs, do you mean you received a Purple Heart, are/was an Olympic athlete, or anything like that?

Yea like if you look at Berkeley's class profile you'll get a sense of what kind of softs they think are unique and such.

Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
Yeah, that's what I meant. Berkeley cares less about the LSAT than other top-14 schools do. I think that's part of the reason their LSAT median is (relatively) low.cesium wrote:I'm curious what you mean by "Berkeley doesn't care about the LSAT". You mean it doesn't care as much about the LSAT as compared to its peer schools? Is that true?teampeeta wrote:I don't have crazy high numbers. My GPA is < 25th and while my LSAT is > 75th, Berkeley doesn't care about the LSAT. My score is between 170 and 175. I am an URM.gma221 wrote:I'm curious about the stats for people who are still UR, if any of you are willing to share. If there are any "special snowflakes" among you (i.e., people with crazy high numbers and/or extraordinary softs who have been accepted to a number of other T14s), then I think we'll be seeing some more straight admits.
I think I have a strong resume with some interesting WE/ college experiences, but I don't think it's stronger than the resumes of the people who got FR'd.

What are you guys' thoughts on sending in a LOCI/'Why Berkeley'? I just want to express Berkeley is among my top choices. I didn't include Berkeley in my PS thinking that would come off odd, but I'm thinking perhaps sending in something now can't hurt.

Are you FR? They specifically mentioned that they don't want LOCIs if that is the case.Arrow4Christ wrote:What are you guys' thoughts on sending in a LOCI/'Why Berkeley'? Wait what? This seems a bit confusing. If we never had FR, wouldn't 2/21 be FR1 for those applicants? Which would mean, it does depend on the applicant.cesium wrote:It appears that all the applicants placed in each FR batch are notified on the same day, at least that's how it was for FR1. FR1 and FR2 refers to the wave itself, not in regards to the applicant. The second wave (2/21) is termed FR2 for chronological purposes; this is my first FR, but it's still called FR2.Bajam wrote:Wait what? This seems a bit confusing. Side note: I don't think you can even undergo a second faculty review for your application, so it makes sense that they're numbered based on the order in which they come in.

+1 Still at UR 1/21 and feels like a ding.action90 wrote:Still at UR from 1/13. Expecting to be dinged this week based on the feeling ITT.
Last year, only a few unique ppl (PhD+URM, for example) got admit as UR after the FR2 wave.
I am definitely not that unique, so it's highly likely I am dinged.

Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
although i don't think it occurred this year (either that, or no one posted about it), if you look back at some older threads, it does appear that that several fr1 people were "deferred" to fr2. can't imagine how irritating that was. i wonder if there's any particular reason this doesn't seem to have happened this yearSakari wrote:

Does Berkeley only have one day for FR2 decisions or could more UR move to it this week?

So, when is the Berkeley deposit date? I'm on the waitlist and wanted to know about when I'll be under consideration again.
Thanks, everyone!

Where are you getting this info? I see that if you're WL'ed Dean Tom said that a LOCI doesn't help, but I don't see anything regarding FR.angels2fly wrote:Are you FR?
