I'm thinking that because I applied so late there was no chance for me to get anywhere besides Faculty Review, right? I'm trying to stay hopeful but it seems like people are not too happy to go under faculty review.

I am a reverse splitter with some pretty unique softs and am currently in a post-graduate fellowship. I wrote a Why Berkeley statement and my PS highlights my commitment to public service. So, I had thought some of us still UR may be in a pile dealing with diversity factors since most of the foundation for Berkeley's medians will have had offered made. Then again, my slight optimism is temper by the fact that it is very late in the cycle and that we may have just been those competing with the recent FR2 batch--even if it does seem weird they wouldn't have put us with the dings on Wednesday.love4life29 wrote:+1gma221 wrote:I'm curious about the stats for people who are still UR, if any of you are willing to share. For the people that got the email today for "further consideration," did your status change to Faculty Review or is it still Under Review?

+1 on "diversity factors". I highlighted some of my unique experiences and made mention of some things specific to Berkeley (elaborating may out me). It may not have made a difference given my numbers, but who knows?
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

UR 1/21 ---> FR today.
I'm not sure there's such thing as an auto-admit for late applicants at Berk? I have the sense that FR was the best outcome possible for me here ... I'd rather be here than be stuck wondering if UR is 100% rejections (tea leaves seem to suggest that it is).

For me, it still just says "Your file is under review." But the date changed to 2/21 and there's a line of text around the top of the page that says "Your application at UC Berkeley Law School has passed an initial administrative review and has been selected for further consideration by the Faculty Admissions Committee."samumenco wrote:For the people that got the email today for "further consideration," did your status change to Faculty Review or is it still Under Review?

FR2 here as well.
UR1 was 12/20.
GPA is right near the 25th
LSAT > 75th
Tailored my PS specifically for Berkeley. CA resident. Here's to hoping.

I don't have crazy high numbers. My GPA is < 25th and while my LSAT is > 75th, Berkeley doesn't care about the LSAT. My score is between 170 and 175. I am an URM.gma221 wrote:I'm curious about the stats for people who are still UR, if any of you are willing to share. I think I have a strong resume with some interesting WE/ college experiences, but I don't think it's stronger than the resumes of the people who got FR'd.

Huge reverse splitter. Below 25th LSAT but almost 75th GPA.
Minority but not URM

I'm curious what you mean by "Berkeley doesn't care about the LSAT". You mean it doesn't care as much about the LSAT as compared to its peer schools? Is that true?teampeeta wrote:I don't have crazy high numbers. My GPA is < 25th and while my LSAT is > 75th, Berkeley doesn't care about the LSAT. My score is between 170 and 175. Oh man...love that game. Now I want a black card about the admissions process. Maybe one that says "Here at Cal Berkeley School of Law, what we value above all else in our applicants is _________________."
EDIT: Won't let me quote the image for some reason...oh well!

Pretty Berkeley unfriendly stats though... <<25th GPA and 75th LSAT. I think I have decent softs, K-JD and no work experience, but I also opened my own business and graduated college all before I was 20.
Hopefully there's still an admit or two left!

"I know that there is a perception out there in the cyberspace world that we value GPAs a lot more than LSATs, and I’m not sure where people get that. Because if you look at our index formula, we are purposeful in weighting it so that GPA and LSAT are roughly equivalent. So, if I had to characterize our review process, it’s about one-third LSAT score, about one-third academic record—I prefer to call it academic record because GPA is just so narrow, whereas with academic record we consider all of the factors that impacted the GPA: work responsibilities, extracurricular activities, rigor of major, and so on. The last third is the subjective factors—what one says in their personal statement, and what others say about them in their letters of recommendation. So, no, I don’t think either of the two quantitative factors is more important than the other."
take that as you will.

I've been UR1 since 2/10. Submitted late so not really that concerned. Above both 75ths + URM + in state. Berkeley is probably top 5 choices for me so part of me is anxious but I'm feeling alright.

Submit 1/31
Complete around 2/1
FR 2/21
165, 3.8x, Cuban-American w/ good softs
Just to be clear, is the 2/21 date associated with FR2, or does that depend on the applicant?

Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
It appears that all the applicants placed in each FR batch are notified on the same day, at least that's how it was for FR1. Thus, today (2/21) seems to be FR2 Day. We'll have to wait for next week to be sure, though.BA414 wrote:Just to be clear, is the 2/21 date associated with FR2, or does that depend on the applicant?
