Top Law Schools

Anyone have the guts to make a firm prediction on pre-Thanksgiving week JS2s? I know history points to that not happening, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I wasn't really considering applying to Harvard - my numbers are at the 25th percentile, but got an email today encouraging me to apply. Is it common for HLS to send out these e-mails to people at their lower end, possibly just to gain a larger applicant pool?

Never heard of H ever emailing people to encourage them to apply. It's probably safe to say that schools are receiving less applicants than prior years and they are taking a proactive approach to encourage folks to apply.....you're probably right it could just be to increase their pool....

Don't freak out.
I think the first batch of Js2 will be coming on turkey week

I don't post on here often, so forgive me if I'm missing something about the theme of these forums. But - assuming all of you are bright, intelligent, ambitious, and hardworking people that have done well enough in school/work/life to feel that applying to law school, and Harvard in particular, is a feasible course of action - I really think the people on this message board and TLS in general should cut back on all the self-doubt. Every other post on these "c/o 2017" pages is "but I'd never have a chance" or "I'll never get a JS2" etc. I just figured people on a "c/o 2017" thread would, by the fact that they are here and applying to xyz school, feel that there is a chance no matter how slight. You've all - I'm sure - have done the research, looked at the numbers and graphs, checked past cycles. You know people with 178's and 3.9's get rejected sometimes, and people with 165's and 3.6's get in sometimes... don't count yourself in our out either way and don't post self-deprecating thoughts. If it is your time and you put forth the best application you could, then sit back and wait.

Perhaps it your trying to not get your hopes up or whatever the case may be, but its kind of depressing... at least in my opinion. Aim high, have confidence, if you are what they're looking for you'll get in. If not, some other place that is looking for someone like you will accept you. You've done what you could up to this point to prepare, so now hit submit, sit back, and wait. When you get JS2, let us know so we can congratulate you. Not trying to offend anyone, just wanna say pick up the mood a little. I'm sure Harvard or any of the top schools, as well as any organization you go to work for afterwards, want people with self-confidence... so start now.

Uh, it's Harvard. No one with a shot at getting in got there by being complacent and resting on their laurels. And interview season is definitely not a time to assume that everything is out of your hands and you can just chillax from here on out. Yes, some people are in a pretty comfortable position and can just wait for a JS2, but for the majority of us, it would be foolhardy to not approach the JS1 with at least a dash of anxiety.

Not to mention the fact that quite a few people ITT are still preparing their applications.

Coming here to say you'll never make it isn't going to help your anxiety, or anyone else. Whether you're preparing app, preparing for interview, or waiting for js2... Coming here to doubt yourself isn't helping. That's all... keep a positive mindset. That's all I'm saying.

First time poster, recent lurker.

I just wanted to add my data to the pool, as I've benefited from the information others provided.

I applied in early October, received my interview e-mail at the end of October, and had my Skype interview last week.

Everything went fine for the most part. Most of the questions were about my resume/experience and hardly any of the questions were ones I'd prepared for directly.

I flubbed a few questions by just rambling a little instead of pausing to gather my thoughts. I can't imagine that's uncommon.

My general impression was that I didn't knock it out of the park, but I probably succeeded in seeming like a rational, competent human being, which I'll count as working out fine.

As far as I can tell, it's a coin flip from here. I wish you all the best of luck.

I actually really like this. Cheers to everyone for even being able to throw your hat into this arena (also, pretty sure most of the self-deprecation really just stems from anticipation anxiety, and it's just plain annoying to whine about the wait we're all going through to people IRL because they'll just think you're being a giant self-inflating dick)

Point of fact, it looks like at least 1,200 people have a shot (I'm assuming interviews are done for a reason) and about 800 actually get in. I'm with TeufelHunden88, I like this. I don't think he/she is implying that confidence and hard work are mutually exclusive. Confidence can only help.

These threads are precisely for people to lower their expectations, cope with the likely chance of not having their dream fulfilled and hard work vindicated, and to share their self doubts with the only group of people they could possibly find en masse that would care to listen and understand. It does not imply a lack of self-confidence, just a rational fear of failure when one's fate is ultimately in the hands of another.

Respect the process.
