mylsn shows 40-50% rate of acceptance over the last few years with those stats. is the confusion because the ding came so early?

ps to the 177/3.6 poster, i wish you all the best for the rest of your cycle, your attitude is inspiring

I think there's been such a strong reaction because a) 177 is a great score, b) 177 is an even better score this cycle which has seen such low application numbers, c) it's rather early for HLS to be throwing away numbers like that, d) 3.6 isn't even that low, and we've seen lower get in this cycle, and e) edward is a cool cat.

Also because this person got a JS1. IIR some people in the interview thread pointed out that once you get your JS1 it's a concession that you are conceivably "Harvard material" and you've made it over the numbers hurdle to a certain extent. This means that (a) HLS has rejected someone whose GPA is prima facie acceptable with an awesome LSAT and (b) HLS has started rejecting competitive applicants whom they have interviewed (which includes many of us).

I remember this story on another TLS thread--that individual wiped most of their posts on TLS to avoid being outed, but they had the type of soft that you see on Yale's Class Profile. No clue about the 156. On LSN, a number of years ago there was a 3.3 admit to HLS, in 2005 or 2004 I think. After that a 3.4/177 was posted.

My understanding of the 3.3 is similar to kkdk's. In addition to sick softs I recall this legendary character also had very good grades in the last years and abysmal performance in the first or something. (I.e. it wasn't a consistent 3.3.) As for the 156, I don't know if it's been said explicitly but Asha mentioned in an interview that they accepted a guy with very low LSAT because he took it in between military deployments (and, I presume, was under a lot of stress and had very little time to study). Something someone on the 203 blog or elsewhere has given me the impression that this guy was the 156, though I don't know that for a fact. Either way, I'd wager everything else on his app was killer.

I think that if your GPA is low and you really want to get into HYS, you probably need to get a PhD first. However, at that point, it might just be smarter to rock the PhD benefits than go back to school for 3 more years.

Really the only reason I'm going to law school is so I can have an absurdly long string of acronyms after my name on a business card. After HLS I'm going to med school.

Yossarian, B.A., M.A.T., M.P.A., Ph.D., J.D., 0 practical skills but a helluva cocktail conversant.

Thanks again all. Assuming I actually have a better chance of transferring into Harvard than getting in directly. NOTE: I'm not saying this is advisable or what I want to do. But, theoretically, the .5% chance of being #1 at a t20 is higher than my 0% chance of getting in now.

Gee, thanks :P Believe it or not, I actually took the time to contemplate whether I should write it correctly...decided to go with the conversational tone and paid for it

tl;dr English has a long history of leaving prepositions at the ends of sentences. There's nothing particularly incorrect about it.
