Or you can sit there in your suit staring at your computer with every other connection to the world turned completely off wondering how long you should wait.

My interview was schedule the morning of the Boston Bombings.

OMG the story of your cycle keeps getting worse. I'm so glad you got into H in the end.

Anyone else with a December complete date waiting for a JS1? :(

Edit - Looks like the turnaround time on the spreadsheet between complete and JS1 is a month or less. So maybe I shouldn't expect one..?

Me, but I'm at 25/25 pretty much, so I had v little hope in the first place. I'm pretty resigned to not getting one at this point, which is fine.

Well over a month is not uncommon. I wouldn't worry - you're probably in the group of people that HLS admissions blog post "waiting is the hardest part" was directed at.

Don't forget about all the holidays in that period, that can delay things a bit from the spreadsheet averages.

Now, every day seems less likely to be a JS2 day.

We're just due for one I feel like. At this point in the cycle last year this was the data on LSN:

JS2: 70 / 536 extrapolated
JSNo: 22 / 168 extrapolated
JSW: 2 / 15 extrapolated

And for this year:

JS2: 61 / 467 (-9/-69)
JSNo: 23 / 176 (+1/+8)
JSW: 0 (-2/-15)

Also last year there were JS2's during every week in January. So far we haven't had any in January. Maybe they wait until next week, but I would venture to guess that Thursday/Friday of this week is as likely as Monday/Tuesday of next. Although that blog post has me a little worried :(

Where did you get that 467 # from? I thought we had figured there's only been 300-350 JS2s so far?

Ehh, we're all still in it, so that's all that counts :)

LS22, I doubt rejections and acceptances are reported at the same rate on LSN, and if I did it correctly, you assume a 13% rate of people who are accepted and report on LSN? That seems a bit low. Did you get that by dividing acceptances last year on LSN/ total acceptances last year?

I think we were trying to figure that out from the Facebook group possibly? In either case we don't know for sure using either method because of variance in how many people report on myLSN.

All I did was take the total acceptances per myLSN last year of 113, divide that into 858 (total offers last year), and come up with a percentage around 13%. Then I divided the total JS2s per myLSN of 61 by 13% and got approximately 467. Actually if you don't round the percentage it's technically extrapolated to 463 acceptances this year.

You could potentially make the argument that more people are posting on myLSN this year than last, so the percentage should be higher. For instance if myLSN now represents 15% of the total pool you would get 407 JS2s. If it now represents 20% you are looking at 305 acceptances. So there is certainly some room for variance. But I would feel comfortable saying there have probably been 350-450 acceptances so far, and 300 seems a little low. That assumes 1/5 applicants post to myLSN which seems high, although I could be off.

I'm sure that's true. If you assume 10% representation of rejections for CY and PY, you're at 230 and 220, respectively. At a 5% rate you've got 460 and 440. In either case the rejection numbers are pretty tight at this point, compared to last year. The acceptance numbers are what are showing more of a lag. Due to the recent wave of rejections, it makes me think that acceptances have to be coming up soon, to catch up to last year's rate of acceptances.

However this is all at odds with two things, the blog post, and the lower number of applications. They really just may be moving slower this year to get a better picture of the applicant pool before pulling the trigger on another wave.

ETA: Post 1900 for luck!

Insane worrying paranoia is what we're all here for -

Re Skype: Harvard J.D. Admissions may appear offline until +- 15 minutes before your interview, so it's possible that they are in your contacts but you aren't noticing them because they are greyed out. Two things you can try. One is next to contacts there is a "recent" tab. If you click that it will show all recent contacts which for you should only be Harvard. The second is to use the search bar above the contacts/recent tabs to search for Harvard or J.D. Admissions - if they connected and you accepted this should bring them up.

If neither of these things work for you, you may have not correctly connected with them and should probably email/call the admissions office.

Hey thanks! I added my boyfriend too to practice and his name is showing up, but JD Admis or whatever it was is not :| . I think I'll give it later in the day before I completely freak out :)

LS22: how much variance is there in the LSN reporting rates between various cycles? That might give us an idea of how well last year predicts this year.

I ask this assuming it's not too much work to figure out. But I haven't worked with the LSN data, so if it's a pain don't bother. :)

For the 2011-2012 cycle there were 865 acceptances, and 131 per LSN, suggesting representation of 15.1%. For the 2010-2011 cycle there were 842 acceptances, and 118 per LSN, suggesting representation of 14.0%. Again, for the previous cycle the calculation shows representation of 13.2% (113/858). So there is some variation, but not much.

The weighted average would be a total of 362 acceptances per LSN for the past three years (131+118+113), divided by a total of 2,565 actual acceptances (865+842+858), giving an estimated LSN representation at HLS of 14.1%.

This would suggest that so far there have been 432 acceptances this cycle. Of course this assumes everyone who has been accepted and that will ultimately update LSN has already done so. If there are additional people who need to update, this would actually make the estimate increase.

Just had my JS1. Loved it! The interviewer and I just riffed on my thesis for 10 minutes and then I told her how much I love social-enterprise work.

It was really conversational and whether or not I get in, I was so happy to be part of the process!

Btw, I could read back in the thread but since the HLS thread is 225 pages of a continuous stream of TLS-consciousness, I'd rather just ask: what's the turnaround from interview to decision?
