Maybe they already filled up their whole class and are just going to slowly reject all of us over the next few weeks

Hi everyone, longtime lurker of this thread - complete 11/8, a member of the no-JS rabble. Today seems to have really been a bloodbath, just wanted to post to offer my condolences to fallen comrades (that >75 ding is especially scary). Hopefully the rest of us will have closure soon as well (albeit with a more pleasant outcome).

Woah. Today's wave doesn't give me good feelings about my prospects. So many condolences to the dings- what a bloodbath.

Sorry to all the dings :/
If I still haven't heard anything (went complete mid/late January), is it safe to assume I'm either going to be WL or dinged? Any chance there might be a last batch of JS1s before April??? Eh?!

One should hope so... and I think there will be some at the end of this week... no real basis though, other than their word of wanting to get things done by April...Tela1283 wrote:Think there'll be more js2's this week?

I hope for our sake that there will be a few JS1s this week, but that's not based on anything other than optimism.Ryan11212 wrote:Sorry to all the dings :/

I'm confused about the second part though (not from what you said Ryan, just in general). What incentive does HLS have to wait list applicants who haven't received a JS1? They've seen all our applications, and have overlooked those of us still waiting for other applicants that they think are better. I would think they've done more than ~850 interviews so far, which is enough for a new class. So why are they stringing us JS0's along?

Regardless of incentives, JS1s off the WL have been fairly common.

All the jumping ships to YS/T14 schollies tend to happen after the second ASW in April, hence historically HLS maintained a sizeable WL to pick backups from. It was not rare that JS0 got JS1 while on the WL.

Also, to remind people, don't be so bummed out about facing the WL (assuming you're not deferring). The odds of getting in from there have generally been solid.
I've managed to shift my expectations a bit and it's made things easier.

Right, but that ~850 accounts for their yield, and that number has historically been pretty consistent. So those who leave for YS/T14 would be included in that 850.sup_stan wrote:All the jumping ships to YS/T14 schollies tend to happen after the second ASW in April, hence historically HLS maintained a sizeable WL to pick backups from. draw is right though, their interests are pretty irrelevant to us. I was just curious

Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
My problem is that, even if I do get lucky and get in off the WL, I'm not 100% sure I would go, and I'd really like to have the opportunity to visit during ASW before I make a final decision (which I obviously wouldn't have if I'm waitlisted)drawstring wrote:Also, to remind people, don't be so bummed out about facing the WL (assuming you're not deferring). I was the one who brought up the WL yield thing initially. I don't think they have made close to 850 offers yet. My initial theory is they make about 600 offers (pretty subjective estimate, depending on the number of people who make up their mind and withdraw prior to the second ASW) pre-April ASW, and let the actual number of people who deferred/went to other schools post-ASW dictate how many more offers they need to make off of the WL (this assumes WL and second ASW are roughly concurrent). FB group size might be an inperfect but approximate indicator of how many offers they have made.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
