Hahaha generally I agree but I think this one is well founded. Looking back at last years thread there were no JS2's that came out on the same day as JS2's, in fact Lavitz predicted when the first round of JS2's would come out last year because of a recent release of a batch of JS1's.CitrusFruit wrote:if I had a nickel for every stupid trend people on TLS read into...The-Specs wrote:JS1's going out today? No, its not bad news at all! Congrats! You got a JS1 with HARVARD. That is feat by itself. All it means, I believe, is that another kind of good news will be delayed. Your JS1 is not bad news at all.lawschool22 wrote:Haha only on TLS is my JS1 bad news

Last year was JS1s on Monday and JS2s on Tuesday. I'm still holding out though.The-Specs wrote:Hahaha generally I agree but I think this one is well founded. I thought someone pointed out that Monday was the only day this week JS1s weren't scheduled to take place (which is distinct from JS1 invites being sent out)? Can anyone comment? I freely admit I don't know the ins and outs of the process so I don't know what clues to look for.

I think that it won't be until tomorrow anyway, but why do you think JS1s preclude JS2s? Aren't the JS1s just a blast email?The-Specs wrote:JS1's going out today? Also, while I'm still thinking tomorrow will be the first wave, I could see an argument for today. So far it looks as though numbers-wise, just about everyone who has gotten an interview so far also would have gotten one last year--but not necessarily before Thanksgiving. If they are maintaining the same number of interviews for the full cycle and just conducting more of them earlier, then they might be planning to release decisions earlier for a larger number of applicants. If that is the case, unless they have all of the interviewers making calls, they might need/want more time to make the calls, and I would think they would prefer to do that Monday/Tuesday instead of Tuesday/Wednesday (if they were going to make calls on two separate days).

This is an excellent point and something I hadn't considered. Also, this may be different from last year which means that what was true for last year could very well not hold for this year because all things on not equal. Thank you for giving me hope again.Slt10T wrote:I thought someone pointed out that Monday was the only day this week JS1s weren't scheduled to take place (which is distinct from JS1 invites being sent out)? Has anyone cross-checked the release of JS2's with lunar phases in previous cycles? I think we may have missed something critical here...

JS2s are only released when Mercury is retrograde.

My Tarot cards are in accordance with my tea leaves, but the results of my ovomancy experiment are ambiguous and predict a JS2 either tomorrow or May 17, 1792.Has anyone cross-checked the release of JS2's with lunar phases in previous cycles? I think we may have missed something critical here...

Having received a JS1 your odds just went from around 13%, the acceptance rate for the applicant pool at large, to around 70%. Seems pretty exciting to me. I can't think of a reason why they would increase the number of interviews. If they have it has not been acknowledged any where that I am aware of.

Last year they conducted 1,200 interviews, and accepted slightly under 900. Which means that (if this cycle is similar to last year), the acceptance rate for the JS1 pool is about 66%.
Still, that's pretty badass.

Agreed. Personally I think they are focusing more on softs this year, mostly at the expense of their GPA floors but I guess we won't know for sure for a while yet.eph wrote: Having received a JS1 your odds just went from around 13%, the acceptance rate for the applicant pool at large, to around 70%. I feel like tomorrow is an auspicious day for a JS2.
Fact #1: Nothing cool happened in history on 25 November.
Fact #2: Tomorrow is John Harvard's birthday.
Fact #3: Tomorrow was the original date of Thanksgiving when Honest Abe made it a holiday. Hopefully some good luck from that date rubs off on 26 November for us.

Okay, yes, this does not speak to the exact admit likelihood for each candidate. Obviously there are JS1ers who are shoo-ins and who have a 100% chance of admission. We're just saying that it means you are more likely to get in than the average applicant (because the average applicant does not receive a JS1).scoopDeeDoo wrote:If that were true, then those who had a 90% chance before a JS1 went down to 70% when they got a JS1, which is probably not true.
But a good sign nonetheless.
I swear to god, if you try to pick apart the word "average" in this context..

Also, no JS1 for me again. If there is no JS1 next week, then I will begin to panic. The same thing happened to me with the Wharton JD/MBA program and I finally got the interview invite after 2 weeks of them giving out interviews to other applicants.

Longtime lurker, finally made an account today. Do you guys know if only JS makes the calls for JS2? They might be pushing back the JS2s because they have more callers this year.
