Common Acronyms

JS1: Invitation to interview with either Jessica Soban (Admissions Dean) or Karen Buttenbaum (Admissions Dean). With very few exceptions, all admitted applicants have this interview before being admitted. It is conducted, again with few exceptions, over Skype. Interviews often last anywhere from 8 to 20 minutes.
More on the Skype Interview

Note: Karen Buttenbaum has joined Spivey Consulting and is no longer with HLS. Interviews this year are being conducted with either Dean Soban or others in the office.

JS1b: A phone call from Jessica Soban or Karen Buttenbaum, generally later in the process, clarifying continued interest in attending Harvard Law. Often goes to people who have been held or waitlisted.

JSW: Being placed on the Harvard waitlist. This decision is communicated via email. This acronym was decided by the vote of this thread.

JS2: A call from Jessica Soban or Karen Buttenbaum offering admittance to Harvard Law School.

LoCI: Letter of Continued Interest

Other Terms:

Held: Either before or after a JS1, some applicants will be "held," meaning a decision is put off to an undetermined later time. This is technically not the same as a waitlist.

Waitlist: HLS has a fairly long waitlist of applicants. See below for more information.

More coming soon. Good luck everyone, including those taking October for a shot here. Going to be a fun few months ahead.

Our pre-Christmas theme poem, created by our very own chneyo:
chneyo wrote:Twas some nights before Christmas, and LS22
Was still on TLS building a spreadsheet or two.
He plugged in some numbers with the greatest of care,
In hopes of discharging the stress in the air.

With those numbers and graphs, to conclusions we’d leap,
While thoughts of denials kept us far from our sleep.
And jobs we ignored and family forsake
To spend nights on the forum, obsessive, awake.

One day in the office there arose so much chatter
That I opened Harvard’s threat to see what was the matter.
“Jingo accepted,” one poster proclaimed.
“He’s going to Harvard, they called him by name.”

Congratulations were flowing as posters did cheer,
But with Jingo’s acceptance rose my own idle fears.
I rushed to my phone. No missed calls. No JS2.
As day became night I still had no news.

In the hours to follow, as more acceptances came,
I started to wonder if my application was lame.
Was my PS worth reading? Were my letters sub-par?
With my LSAT and GPA would JS make it that far?

I soon grew exhausted by the thoughts in my head.
Weary and broken I departed for bed.
I made one final post as I turned out the lights,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”

Thanks OP

Checking in.

Hoping next year's cycle is crazy. Otherwise, I'm probably out with a 3.6x 174.

Checking in. I don't have a snowball's chance in hell of actually getting in, but I will be applying to avoid a case of the "What if"s. Good luck to the rest of you!

It's because no one is confident enough in their likelihood of gaining admission to Yale lol.

edit: I think sourrudedude, stefan(don't remember your full username lol), or pneumonia should start it
