Yeah, I don't disagree with this. I think SLS and YLS will be pretty well insulated because of their smaller class sizes but I think Harvard will get whacked because they have to take in SO many applicants to meet their quotas.
this is also what was said last year. last year's thread had a lot of twists and turns (like elterrible, a 4.0 178 getting held->WL->rejected), and at the end of the day, hls actually posted its class profile pretty early...only to have applicants see that their c/ 2016 profile was identical to the preceding year's.
True, but we are seeing applications and top scores down again this year as well. So while it may not have affected HLS last year, the chance of it doing so this year is greater than it was last year.
I am also not saying that HLS's medians will be affected in any significant way, so looking at the class profile doesn't necessarily tell the whole story. All I am saying is I predict a slight lowering in the GPA floor when compared to last year.

I completely agree. If HLS's class size were 200 we wouldn't probably even be having the conversation.

the "getting whacked," "scrambling," etc talk suggests a desperation that wouldn't allow them to WL/Rej people like elterrible whose softs were actually pretty good, sinfiery, lavitz...not to mention a few 3.8+ 173+ people who didn't go WL->Accepted
Yeah, these are all good points, I guess I am just trying to develop a cogent reason why I got in when I feel like my softs are below average and people like those you mentioned above got dinged with = or > LSAT's than mine and WAY better GPA's.
Not complaining though, just trying to understand it.

So why would someone with great numbers and ok softs be rejected? Can a so-so interview knock you out of the running? Or is it just that they have so many qualified people they have to reject some?

Well early reports appear to have been less promising that originally hoped. It looks like the overall breakdown of applicants with top scores did not decrease as much as we had originally been hearing.

They care a bit more about softs than people think. If you have awesome numbers but nothing else on your resume, they have been known to reject you. They have also been known to accept people with less than steller numbers due to good softs.

Harvard can afford to pay less attention to its rankings, even with its large class. And they actually care about admitting people who are (a) interesting, and (b) likely to do well after law school.

Anybody think there will be JS2's today/tomorrow, or are we thinking Friday/Monday again?

I have a feeling it'll be Friday/Monday at the earliest. The late Thanksgiving seems to have shifted things for some admissions offices this year.

I was especially intrigued by these vacant days (F/M) on the JS1 calendar as well.

Although they do hand out JS1s on the same days as JS2s, the fact that there are days blocked out on the calendar could mean something (PLEASE LET IT MEAN SOMETHING).
Does anyone remember if they actually conducted (rather than sent out invites for) JS1s on the same days as the first wave of JS2s went out?

During the week of Thanksgiving, when all those JS2s went out on the 25th, were there JS1 interviews that day? I remember there being JS1 interview slots open for the 26th and the 27th, but I can't remember if they had any on Monday.

They havn't done any JS1's on Mondays this year but they did do them on the 26th, the second day of JS2's. They have been doing JS1's on Fridays though so the fact that they are not this week must either mean some kind of obscure holiday or they are freeing themselves for somethings else.

How does one get a JS1? It says my app is complete. Do I simply get an email notification informing me about it?

I'm not so sure that the thing that held true in past years (no JS1= likely JS2 indicator) is necessarily true this year. Since there are more than just 2 interviewers for JS1's this year, presumably Dean Soban could take the day for JS2's while JS1's are conducted by the other people in the office.

Yeah, I was going to say that there were JS2s on that Tuesday as well, so there was at least one day of overlap.
Hasn't the second round of JS2s typically come out around the second Monday after thanksgiving in years past? So isn't this really late, even with a late thanksgiving?

I feel like I won't get it until 2014. I went complete at the end of November.

The average wait time is about 2 weeks, but there should be another big wave of JS2s so it's likely that you may not find out until next year. People have gotten into HLS after waiting 3 months for a JS1, so you can't let a long wait time make you think that you're not going to get in.
