LS22 is my source on this but it seems as though it's just not something you need to do for the HLS interview.

I'm really confused...I've been under review for 5 months with no JS1 invite and no updates whatsoever. I'm not getting in without a JS1, so I feel like I should've been rejected a long time ago. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

Current LSN update through 2/28/14 per LSN

Acceptances - 105
Rejections - 75
Wait list - 0

Compared to last year at this point in the cycle (Through 3/1/13, since this was the equivalent of 2/28/14).

Acceptances - 98
Rejections - 42
Wait list - 5 (note, these may actually be "holds," as there was some confusion about this on LSN last year)

The acceptances seem pretty comparable. The interesting thing is the rejections. Either they are making more rejections sooner this year, or more people are reporting rejections on LSN this year. It may be a bit of both, but it's interesting to see that on LSN so far we have almost double the rejections at this point in the cycle as compared to last year.

I highly, highly doubt people are rejected during the interview. The fact that they offered you an interview means they like something about your application, and for them to reject you on the spot during the interview would be pretty uncharacteristic.

Perhaps they have been rejecting some applicants who last year, would have typically been: complete->held->reject.

As someone with a lower GPA and a high LSAT, I so badly wish this was true, but my lack of even a JS1 seems to indicates otherwise (yes, I know this is anecdotal but just let me be melodramatic in my moment of grief )

I feel like this cycle hasn't been as "easy" as it has been made out to be. If anything, It's only been wildly unpredictable. I wonder if this is the the effect of the increase of 170+ scorers this year.

well there was one day where we had several 3.8+ 174 rejections (toast et al). that would suggest that their 173 isn't a concern either.

besides, there's always a surplus of good GPAs, so I'm not sure why we'd need more evidence that their GPA median isn't a concern. Rather, it's more likely that neither GPA nor LSAT is a "OMG we need to meet this quota" concern and they're just proceeding normally.

also, Re: WLs: the high percentage of acceptances who were first waitlisted may just be a function of how many people they waitlist. Because of its large class size, a "normal" yield relative to its peers would mean a lot of seats to fill. But if they also WL fewer people proportionally than nonYS schools, then normal # of ppl who decline matriculation/normal, but low # of people they WL in the first place = high % (15%).

JS2: a bigger honor. but when someone doesn't get one, they never think it's because they weren't a good fit. It's always some supply/demand explanation as if #s are determinative rather than just really important

fair - I guess that I feel so low on the numbers totem pole that I'm still surprised I was JS1'd and even more surprised that I haven't been dinged. Each day of HLS consideration makes me feel like my undergraduate and graduate work was actually worthwhile.

I find it so bizarre that most, if not all of the rejections we saw from yesterday on LSN+TLS were 171s. It wouldn't be weird if we saw a small range, say a wave of 169-172 rejections - but all exactly 171? Probably just an issue of sample size, but it's a pretty big co-incidence nonetheless.
