I wish schools would just have a deadline (like June 1 or something) where they finalized all acceptances so people aren't getting called in September. Why would H even need to accept those late people? I'm sure they would have a 500+ class already
That would be so great, just a strict deadline for a decision no matter what. I'm not sure why, but I would think they keep those later applicants in case their yield rates for some reason take a dip, or a safety net just in case.

Also, in case it wasn't clear - the example of my friend was not her experiences at HLS, but a different school. I'm not sure whether HLS even accepts people that late in the summer. A quick glance at LSN from last year shows the latest Waitlist->Accept was end of June. Although people were on the wait list but rejected in August.
If you look on LSN last year there were a couple late August/early Sept. decisions, and the year before that there were a lot of them, so it looks H does like to stretch it out.

Sorry if I'm depressing anyone lol

So acc to the poll there are 50 JS1.5s among us.

What percent of those 50 do we expect to see WL?

Are you sure? I might be looking in the wrong spot or am doing this wrong, but from last cycle I see that the latest WL -> Accept was 6/27. There were WL -> Reject in July/August though.

Granted, the 2011-12 cycle did have a lot of WL -> Accept in the later months of the summer.

Long time lurker. Infrequent poster. Obsessive checker of this thread.

So I've been looking at last year's threads (including the held and waitlist threads) and, although obviously the same problems with sample size, etc., exist, I've gotten a general sense of a couple things.

First, I found a post that stated, on May 28th, that the FB group was at 544 members. Take that to mean what you may. I think we're at 459 members for this year's group. That's a difference of 85 members to be made up over approximately two months. Doesn't seem like we should really be expecting any huge waves (although there will obviously be some action), and so the general idea that it's trickle movement from here on out seems credited.

The other thing I've noticed, although I don't really have hard numbers to back this up, is that it seems like once we get to the wait list stage, you'd better have a high GPA. Last year's thread really gives one the sense that if they are going to give a splitter a spot, they give it to them fairly quickly after their JS1. I saw some data in last year's thread, if I remember correctly, stating that people who got off the wait list had an average GPA in the 3.7-3.8 range. It looks like if you want to reasonable expect to get off the wait list, you had better have close to median numbers, anyway. Just a thought.

I'm a <25% GPA, >75% LSAT, so this doesn't bode well for me.

Haha. I thought someone might say that. Obviously you want strong numbers to have a good shot. I just meant that I guess I expected they would hold off on offering to splitters/reverse-splitters, and then later on in the game sort of let in some splitters, some reverse-splitters on balance. But it didn't really seem to play out that way last year, so I was mostly just expressing my surprise at that fact.

3.7-3.8 is actually sub-median.

True. I think I was trying to get a sense for say, do they prefer someone with a 25th to 50th, or someone with sub 25th, above 50th. And the feeling I've gotten so far is that it's the former. But obviously this is just speculation.

True. I think I was trying to get a sense for say, do they prefer someone with a 3.75, 172, or someone with a 3.68, 174. And the feeling I've gotten so far is that it's the former. But obviously this is just speculation.

IRRC there was very little action from mid April until late May when there was a wave of WL accepts. So, while now to late May is about two months, it's not like decisions go out steadily over that period, at least based on LSN. Looking at LSN, I don't get the sense that we will start to see SLS like trickles.

My heart still tells me tomorrow :D

But my heart has been wrong so many times before :( :(

The past cycle seems to be matching up well with the current cycle over the last few weeks, and there were JS2s on Monday the 25th last year. At the start of last week I was thinking we'd see JS2s tomorrow, and I'm still reasonably confident about that (though I've been wrong many times too!)

People on TLS often claim that it's better to be over one median than neither. What I'm saying is that, coming off the waitlist, people had much better success being in the 25th to 50th range for both numbers, rather than being over 75th for one, below 25th for another.

yeah...i think from here on out, there are no more picnics. if we're lucky enough to make the waitlist, we're in for a few more months of misery, followed probably by more misery.

Yeah. That's the one. I count three GPAs below (excluding no GPA guy) 3.7. Maybe it's obvious but I was just personally surprised to find so many people still straddling the median line with both numbers that late in the game.
