Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
Very difficult to judge softs (so take everything I say with a grain of salt). My understanding: If your work experience was for multiple years with lots of responsibilities then perhaps above average. If you just took an internship for a short while, then it might be safe to assume that you are average (as most people have likely taken short term internships etc.).californiauser wrote:What constitues average work experience for the google spreadsheet?
Would govt work experience in the field I want to go into be considered an "average" soft? below average?

I wish I could check it out, but they didn't consider west coast people with full time jobs when setting up the time . Hopefully it will make it to youtube shortly after.Sourrudedude wrote:Is anyone else doing the thing tonight?

Where the admissions office is:
Where most 1L classes are:
The student center:
The dorms:
Any requests of things to see?

As for the attractiveness of the student body; seeing as the student body is over 1600 students, I think you'll find someone.
I can work on the bar.

For some reason I thought Gropius would be much less dorm-like than it is, but that looks exactly like where a lot of my friends spent freshman year.TripTrip wrote:Harvard has me beat there: http://www3.law.harvard.edu/dos/hlshous ... 2/gropius/Dr. Dre wrote:*Inside of a dorm

My undergrad dorm looked better than this. Give me Stanford's Munger any day over this crap. With all the money Harvard has I am deeply disturbed.MoMettaMonk wrote:For some reason I thought Gropius would be much less dorm-like than it is, but that looks exactly like where a lot of my friends spent freshman year.TripTrip wrote:Harvard has me beat there: http://www3.law.harvard.edu/dos/hlshous ... 2/gropius/Dr. Dre wrote:*Inside of a dorm

Do Harvard students actually live in those dorms?

As someone who lives in Cambridge, living in those dorms would be a silly decision. There is a lot of affordable housing in the area.

Gropius is very much the affordable housing option. The price range is $750-$850/month for the bulk of the rooms, with all utilities (and internet) included. Compared to the $1500-$2000 rent for a 1BR or studio off campus, it can add up fast.AAJD2B wrote:My undergrad dorm looked better than this. Give me Stanford's Munger any day over this crap. As someone who lives in those dorms and quite likes it, I disagree about its silliness! Off-campus housing definitely makes sense if you are married/seriously committed or you have a group of people who you know you will love for roomates. Personally I have neither of those, and I very much enjoy not having a 20 minute walk to get to campus. Nothing around here would net me personally the same value as what I'm getting in Gropius.ohpobrecito wrote:As someone who lives in Cambridge, living in those dorms would be a silly decision. If both Gropius and off-campus housing sound daunting, Hastings might be a good intermediate.
