do you know if they take LOCI? for some reason Hastings keep saying "Because we have a large number of applications to review, we kindly request that you do not call or email the Admissions Office regarding [anything]..."
and I would email it to them, you want to make sure they're aware that they're receiving a LOCI after you were waitlisted.

Got WL this morning via email as well.
im obviously not as great as alot of you guys on this forum in terms of LSAT and GPA..so please do not tell me anything along the lines of don't go to either. but a friend just told me if she were given the choice between Loyola (LA) and Hastings she would go with Loyola. i just like to know the pros and consso i can make a decision when the time comes. i just want other's thoughts on this. Thanks.
i live in LA. so in terms of location, i would be able to commute for Loyola. and would be spending more if i were to pick Hastings. however, Hastings is ranked much higher.
I think it depends on where you want to practice. If your target market is LA, go for Loyola; if you're aiming for the bay area, definitely Hastings.
If anything, the one thing going for UC Hastings is "reputation." Not the greatest employment stats to back it up at this point in time. I grew up on the east coast and went to a catholic school so I've heard of Loyola because of its name, not because of its law school. I have been in NorCal since last summer. People in the area seem to have a very good opinion about UCH. Lawyers and non-lawyers seeme to respect the institution. However, chances are they don't know how hard is to get a legal job coming out of Hastings.

I'll second this and send the LOCI through email, generally you can reply directly to the email address that sent the decision email. There are a few resources on this site for drafting the letter, but let me know if you have any questions about it. Received some valuable input from others a couple months ago that I'd be happy to pass along.eliztudorr wrote:ok! thanksBlackCanary wrote:I would be hesitant, but I think a LOCI is ok. I wish everyone still waiting or wait listed the best! While I'm not sure if I'll be matriculating, as a California native I can say that people really respect Hastings in the state (including SoCal). It also kind of has a bad ass history that you should wiki, and if you're familiar with the recent politics of the UC system, I think you'll find it highly relevant. I have a friend who got a 160k job offer last year during his L1 summer, and know another person with a similar situation working at a firm in SoCal--albeit they're both in IP with science backgrounds. Random/fun fact: the current Pope's lawyer went to Hastings.
Quick update for admits: I received the same 13k/yr Hastings scholarship that some of the others have reported. Was notified a a day or two after submitting my need access. It's nice that they were so quick about it, but it really only takes a nibble out of the costs. Has anyone heard anything else about additional funding or scholarships to apply for?

Does UC Hastings require parent information for Need Access and FAFSA?

I believe Need Access asks about money you may be receiving from your parents and other family members to be used toward school.Cal Trask wrote:No.yeslekkkk wrote:Does UC Hastings require parent information for Need Access and FAFSA?

I got an email from Hastings on 2/17 acknowledging receipt of my Need Access and FAFSA but I haven't heard anything since. I'm getting kinda worried since most of you have heard back within a day or two of that email...

Got that email on the 17th as well. It hasn't been a week yet. I wouldn't be too worried. If the aid is need based I should be getting some because I didn't make much $ last year. I've heard they are stingy, so unless they make an exception an give me some significant $$ I'm probably going to pass. Good luck!purplethunder wrote:I got an email from Hastings on 2/17 acknowledging receipt of my Need Access and FAFSA but I haven't heard anything since. For my Need Access form, I do not speak to either of my parents anymore but it is making me input parental info anymore. I have filed independent since 2011, and my father last claimed me in 2010. Should I call, or is there an option on the form to not input parental info? They haven't contributed to my education since community college.
