I am an alumnus of UC Davis (undergrad). I know all about the city. I was at ASD. Feel free to pm and ask any questions you want. It's hard to know what to comment about the city of Davis without knowing your background. Are you from CA? out of state? from Southern California? Davis is a small city, but it's also not completely isolated. It's about 15-20 mins from Sac. It's not too far from the Bay Area. There are a lot of good restaurants and parks. The easiest way to sum up Davis is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pzztu9xxd9U

Wow, my "Awaiting Evaluation" status finally changed to "Evaluation in Progress" this evening. I'd given up hope. I filed late, but this took forever. It's still not done either. They have a very small window to finish by the time I have to put in my deposit elsewhere. Even if they do give me a decision before the weekend, and I do happen to be accepted, I'll need financial aid info. Plus I'd still like to check out the campus, and it'd be nice to have the time to weigh all the pros and cons of each school that I'm considering against UC Davis.

The enchiladas they served at lunch were bomb.

I would go visit before you commit but I was sold by ASW!

Man, I couldn't even eat much because the 2Ls and the professors I was talking to during lunch were friendly and awesome as f#$%. Every school boasts "friendly/social environment", but this was the one school that I felt that actually delivered.

Dayum - LST numbers came out and Davis beat out USC and Irvine for CA schools. If you sort by LST employment score in CA, Davis is T14 haha

Holy shit....I had no idea USC had fallen that much. Shit.

To be fair, without school funded jobs,

USC = 56.8%
Davis = 54.3%

I ain't paying 40,000 a year for similar employment stats.

Yeah and SC's Large firm score blows Davis out of the water. It looks like Davis has considerably more PI/gov access though.

I think the reason for that is largely location. USC/UCLA dominate SoCal. In NorCal, you have the two big ones (Stanford and Berkeley) but also some other well-respected schools like Hastings, Davis, Santa Clara. I also think more people seem to be attracted to Davis because of its emphasis on social justice/public interest law. That's my take.

Well Davis has some pretty good employment outcomes and seems to be well-respected. Plus, their tuition is lower and COL is also lower than USC. For me personally, I don't want Biglaw. Davis seems to be a pretty great option. I was deciding between Davis and a T-14. Once I went to ASW, it just seemed silly to take on all that debt when Davis gives you some pretty good options at a reasonable price (if you get a good scholarship) AND it's in California. I'm super stoked on Davis. I, also, have my housing set up already.

I think it's silly how people discount UC Davis so quickly. It's obviously doing a lot better than UC Hastings. Everyone is putting all these hopes into UCI. UCI will be a solid school, but it won't be UCLA caliber. I'm so sold on UC Davis; it's ridiculous.

Im getting

Davis = 64.8%
USC = 59.7%

You are subtracting all school-funded jobs as opposed to only those that are long-term, full-time, requiring a JD

I agree - I couldn't be more thrilled to be going to Davis next year. It wasn't even really on my radar when I first applied yet now I can't tell you how excited I am to have committed there.

Thank you! You are absolutely correct. I spotted that error in subtracting as well. I was debating on whether to point it out.

Berkeley = 78.4% (55.8%)
UCLA = 66.3% (39.4%)
Davis =64.8% (16.3%)
Irvine = 64.3% (33.4%)
USC = 59.7% (33.6)
San Diego = 51.9% (9.7%)
Pepperdine = 51.6% (12.2%)
Loyola = 49.3% (12.8%)
Santa Clara = 42.2% (14.3%)
Hastings = 41.1% (15%)
.... All the rest

Hi all!

Just got accepted yesterday via text message! Does scholarship info come with the official acceptance letter? Or can I find it online?

It comes separately as an email. It took me a month and half to get my scholarship info, but since the cycle is pretty far along, maybe it will come soon.

I know the admitted students website says "UC Davis does not offer a gift aid matching program," but has anyone tried to negotiate scholarship money with them?

I tried but was told that they couldn't offer any more money "at this time"

Well, I freed up 105k worth of scholarship for someone last week. As the April 15th round of seat deposits nears, there'll probably be more money being put back on the table.

Has anyone else noticed that a lot of people on TLS are strangely attacking UC Davis? like trying to tear it down while build up other schools? I've noticed a lot of hate from UCI, USC, UC Hastings...

I kind of laugh/am kind of sick of reading it.

Honestly, there's a lot people do not know on here. There's plenty of good information but then there's plenty of opinions that circulate so frequently that they're taken as fact. Most of my reservations about Davis prior to the ASW were from things I had read here and all of them were completely erased when I got the real information and also saw the good employment statistics for this past graduating class.

Does anyone else still feel on the edge of their seat to hear more information/get more communication from Davis? I know we've already been accepted/put down deposits etc. but I guess I'm just so excited to start that I get excited at each email. Also really hoping for some more scholarship $$, which I've heard is a good possibility after April 15th.

I personally never thought I'd consider Davis. But the employment stats, price of attending, and ASW definitely changed my mind. Given my goals, it's a decent option.

Yeah, I'm really excited to get more info from the school! I don't even know what info they could send though. I would love some more scholarship money. How does one leverage more scholarship money though after the first deposit?

I'm liking the positivity in this thread (and the recent employment score).

Just to clarify: is the seat deposit due ON the 15th before midnight?
