Did anyone else on here apply for the MLK Jr. PI scholarship?

I did too and am on pins and needles waiting to hear. I'm hoping our merit scholarships don't adversely affect our consideration for an additional scholarship.yeslekkkk wrote:Did anyone else on here apply for the MLK Jr. PI scholarship?

Same. What if you got a full ride? Does that mean you get $60,000 on top of that?yeslekkkk wrote:I've been wondering how that would work.Jamesta25 wrote:I did too and am on pins and needles waiting to hear. Yeahhhhhh... I guess the question is do they allow scholarships to go towards the TOTAL COA or just tuition and fees?ManoftheHour wrote:Same. What if you got a full ride? I got a sizable chunk of change but looking at the UC Davis financial aid award breakdown yesterday, I'd still have to take out significant loans each year. The MLK would make a huge difference for me, as I'm assuming it would for both of you as well.
I hope they choose them solely based on qualification. What if the difference between getting the MLK and not would be the difference for someone attending Davis or not? Also, there's a faculty mentor in addition to the money that makes the award not purely financial but also personalized career guidance.
I guess we'll all know soon enough.

Anyone had any success negotiating schollies? What other offers do you think contributed to the success?

I went from not wanting to deposit to iffy on depositing thanks to an awesome ASW. Then I found out it was $250. Deposited.

When I started applying to schools, Davis was not high on my list. I was actually pretty impressed by their Admit Day. I am also pretty stoked on their employment numbers. AND they give out some good money. I deposited this morning.ManoftheHour wrote:I went from not wanting to deposit to iffy on depositing thanks to an awesome ASW. Then I found out it was $250. It wasn't high on my list at all. Honestly, full disclosure, it was because during UG, I was dumped by a girl up there so I always had a slight bias against the school. That long drive 7 hour drive back to SoCal was depressing as f@#$. LOLyeslekkkk wrote:When I started applying to schools, Davis was not high on my list. I got an email yesterday notifying me that I was selected as an alternate for the MLK scholarship so you guys probably should have heard something by now. Here's to hoping whoever they selected picks a different school lol

Does that mean you are committing to Davis or keeping your options open?ManoftheHour wrote:I went from not wanting to deposit to iffy on depositing thanks to an awesome ASW. Then I found out it was $250. Deposited.

Definitely somewhat committing. I applied to like 20 schools, and I've withdrew from all but 3 (excluding WLs and dings).Jamesta25 wrote:Does that mean you are committing to Davis or keeping your options open?ManoftheHour wrote:I went from not wanting to deposit to iffy on depositing thanks to an awesome ASW. I'll be throwin down both seat deposits at Davis and putting this cycle behind me. I can't imagine a better situation arising at another school. ASW sold me. I'm stoked. See you guys in August.

+1 to all of your comments on ASW. Utterly amazing! Still deciding, but glad to have a good option with some good $ManoftheHour wrote:I went from not wanting to deposit to iffy on depositing thanks to an awesome ASW. Then I found out it was $250. Deposited.

Glad to hear you all enjoyed ASD! I was not able to attend, and I have never been to Davis, but it is one of my top choices because of its location in Northern California, small size, and public interest program.
Any other comments on ASD or the town of Davis in general? A little nervous to commit to living and studying in such a small place for three years!

I would go visit before you commit but I was sold by ASW!
