It won't matter. You are auto-admit. I didn't have one, but apparently it is a good idea to have an answer for "why law" and "why wustl/st. Louis"

If anything, you may get YP'd, although I don't think that WUSTL does that often, or at all.

Thanks so much for your help!

Does WUSTL send an acceptance packet, or just the email?

I received an acceptance letter in the mail a week after the acceptance email. No scholarship information included, just a single letter that I believe was identical to the email.

Anybody else pronounce WUSTL as "woos'l"? I'm clearly not alone, right?

Everyone here calls it Wash U. Before I got here I was pronouncing it Wustl, as in almost rhymes with hustle, except I was pronouncing the t. I think the Wustl thing is common on the internet to distinguish it from the other washington universities and universities of washington.

Thanksgiving was rough, saying "Washington University in Saint Louis" about 15 times to different relatives asking where I've been accepted to. That's a lot of syllables, but "woost'l" would have been super confusing, and saying "Washington University" and leaving them to think for themselves would have resulted in assuming the state of Washington.

Haha I wouldn't pronounce it that way to other people. Only to myself, alone, while checking the status checker.

lol ah...i was wondering when ppl would have the "no one knows wtf WashU is, this blows" discussion...

In short, fuck lay-prestige. If u happen to get it, then great. But don't borrow extra money just for lay-prestige. What matters is reputation in the legal market and what hiring partners/employers think of the school. There's only one or two schools that don't have some kind of lay-prestige problem (Harvard and maybe Stanford) because there's lots of ppl that are too dumb to know how good Yale is. UPenn? cool you go to penn state. Chicago? Is that a public school? NYU? yeah that's a decent university but not elite right? List goes on and on.

Go to (1) the best school that (2) gives you the most money that (3) has decent placement in your desired market/field. The only reason you should borrow Harvard tuition is if you have Harvard options and have Harvard career goals. Outside of that it's all about geographic placement and your grades (and minimizing debt).

Fwiw though, in this region WUSTL is insanely respected, and from what I have heard, that holds true in most professional circles nationwide.

This something I had heard in my time at WUSTL, interacting with the people from around St. Louis especially, it's why I've kept the school high on my list, no matter how I score on the LSAT next week.I was impressed with the reach the school does have in the midwest, and living in St. Louis seems like it could mitigate some of the substantial costs associated with WUSTL as well (I don't think I'll ever be able to find the ridiculously cheap housing that an area like UCity has in any other US metro area).

One thing I've heard, and maybe you could speak more to this, but I've heard employers in St. Louis can sometimes been hesitant on hiring kids out of WUSTL because of perceived idea that the candidate is going to flock out to a major market like NYC if they have a chance. What is the validity of this? It's probably the only negative thing I heard while at school.

I'm pretty excited to apply to WUSTL soon, though. The city and school do have a special place in my heart because of having gone there for undergrad.

I think for most people who knows a bit about academics respect washU. Its name carries throughout the middle states and it is a well known name in medicine. But midwesterners still put an r in there :)

Yea, I still need to find a female med student to hitch up with.

Med students are intense. You should focus on the girls who are doing graduate work in Brown 8)
