If you're tight on money, you can cover the big ticket items using the Metrolink train. "Touristy" things are about 3/4 metrolink convenient.

But I would recommend driving personally, especially if you are gonna scout out some living places. STL is a driving-centered town for sure, and some of the best things to see are a hassle to get to via public trans.

Maybe rent a car for one of your visit days (like saturday) and use the train for Friday/sunday? Not sure how weekend vs. one day rates on rental cars are...

What's the cab situation like in STL? I'm not 25 yet so I have to pay a pretty substantial extra fee on rental cars. Was thinking it might end up being cheaper just to cab it.

This is probably a good idea. Cabs are cheaper than big cities, not dirt cheap though. I use Harris Cab Co. It's like 3.50 start up plus 2.20 per mile I think. One buck more per additional passenger.

Laclede cab is even cheaper I think, but either is good. Either way, you'll have to call the company - this isn't new york; you don't get to raise your arm and have three cabs fight over you :)

if you're looking for apartments in the central west end or the loop (two popular neighborhoods for 20-somethings), the metrolink is a good option and is only $2.25 each way. if you're venturing into a more suburban neighborhood, you'll probably need to call a cab. for clayton apartments, it depends on the proximity to the metro station.

Congrats all!

General WUSTL PSA:

Those of you sincerely interested should stick it out as long as possible on the scholly stuff, they're very likely to redistribute funds from withdrawls as the spring deposit deadlines approach. Hang in there! Even the famous WUSTL geneorsity of last cyle was much later in the year than now, and some people got multiple increases. Just politely stay in touch with Admissions and keep WUSTL on your list!

Bolded is very true, you gotta call ahead. But given 10-15 mins lead time, my cabs have always arrived promptly, even with van cabs on weekends. So it's nbd.

Only place you'll see cabs ready to roll is the airport and bar areas on weekend nights, IME.

I have no problems with getting a car (got dat age), and a bit of a hookup. If there is a telly getting setup in March, I'm down to Soccer Mom it up with fellow TLS-ers if anyone can squeeze me in.

Also, +1 to swanky penthouse suite in Downtown St. Louis. Gold-Plated Roman Tub or bust.

It's where all the cool kids hang out.

Plus, it was started by a TLSer and he posted links in the admitted students thread, so I'm pretty sure the whole thing is us. :)

I was accepted 1/3 and haven't received any $ information yet. Really getting worried that none is coming. Has anyone gotten a full admission packet other than just the hard copy of the acceptance e-mail? If so was this after you got your $ offer. Thanks!

Dunno if it helps, but I was accepted 1/17. Haven't received any snail mail, but got $$$ info through email this week.

Do they send denial/waitlist emails or is it by snail mail? And acceptances are all by email first?
