I submitted late February because I retook the Feb LSAT. Had my interview two weeks ago. Looks like it might be a numbers thing where they have the amount of applicants that they need. I'm also from California (attended undergrad and grad school there) so there might've been perception that I wouldn't leave. So maybe that's it. Although I am definitely willing to go out-of-state (currently though my Top 3 in no particular order is Minnesota, Emory, and USC).

Ahhh. Looks like I won't be a WUSTLUT :(

Honestly by comparing the numbers of people not getting in right now with mine, or people earlier than me it really just seems like they may have hit their targets. I have no idea about past WL movement, but I think that's a serious possibility depending on how the first seat deposit shakes out.

I think scotti is spot on with "hit their numbers already". There are inklings of information that app numbers are going up and LSAT takers actually did go up. I think the slump we've seen the past several years is reversing.

I think it was more of a WUSTL popularity thing than LSAT numbers going up

Georgetown reported being up 6% in apps. 6% is no chump change.

Georgetown also suffers from the same peculiarity in popularity as WUSTL though (I would argue at least)...

How so/why? And also why does it manifest for both this year?

http://www.top-law-schools.com/wiki/Georgetown_Law (~10,000 total applications)
http://www.top-law-schools.com/wiki/Was ... ool_of_Law (~4,300 applications)

For some perspective,
http://www.top-law-schools.com/wiki/Northwestern_Law (~4500 applications), Penn ~5500K
http://www.top-law-schools.com/wiki/Van ... Law_School (~3500 applications)

So in a 16-18 range, WashU averages 1,000+ more applicants
12-14, GTown averages about 5,000+ more applicantions

Just saying GTown is really popular for applications. And when my nerdy stats mind thinks about it, the SD for GTown application numbers is likely larger so a 6% increase is notable but not outside the statistical range.

This is a great post, thanks for pulling stats. I'm about to go to bed, but will look at the links in detail in the morning and respond.

NP, it was a quick fact check, so I am in no way claiming this should be the end of the discussion.

WUSTL is popular because of their reputation for making it rain.

GULC, the Sick Man of the T14, is popular because of basketball.

We had jeans up to suits at ours. I wore business casual Thursday because I came from work, and then on Friday I wore business casual because I was too lazy to wash my jeans.

eta: don't wear a suit or the female skirt equivalent of that. It's not needed and people will confuse you with faculty.
Even a student on the panel was in jeans and a polo. hth
I was told business casual when I called the admissions office earlier today

Current 1L chiming in. (Fresh account so you can't look up all of my 0L angst.) Waitlisted people, don't lose hope. I personally know a good number of people who were admitted off the waitlist, some with huge scholarships. People got off the waitlist as early as May and as late as the week of orientation, IIRC.

Alright, got a chance to take a look at this. I agree with you that Gtown is more popular (application #'s wise) than its peer schools. However, the 6% increase in apps is not relative to its peer schools--it's relative to Gtown last year. So, the question here really is why is Gtown more popular this year than Gtown was last year.

I think there could be two answers here: 1) this is not a product of apps going up across the board and is due to Gtown's popularity/prowess of admissions office/etc., or 2) this is a product of apps going up across the board, Gtown included.

I guess to really flesh this out we'd need at least two years of data from Gtown, WashU, and peer schools, and see the movement in percentage terms of application volume.

:shock: it's gonna change back?
I'm almost positive. There are instances of the r-word from past posts changing into "Good luck! Follow your dreams!" today.

But I quoted you so I don't look like a turd if you change it. :P

Who's the turd now, bro? :lol:

Can any 1Ls chime in on the estimated cost of living that the school puts out? Overestimate/underestimate/right on?

Parking Pass (optional) $480;
Books/Supplies $2,000;
Room/Board $14,400;
Personal/Other Expenses $5,000

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
