So, I got a big scholarship increase on Wednesday that said in order to accept it I would need to commit to Wash U. Then I got an e-mail today saying that they forgot to include the fact that I would need to decide by tomorrow in order to keep the scholarship. I am going to ask for an extension because it seems like 1 day is a pretty short period for deciding. Has anyone else gotten anything like this?

70 withdrawn from 229 acceptances..

30.6% withdrawn rate, compared to 17.7% matriculation rate.

mmmm...not really.

I know of a few people who got it. It's definitely a quick turn around but I understand why they do it. They have a lot of deserving applicants who are actually committed to Wash U. Doesn't make sense to hold up that money for someone who isn't going to attend.

I was more referring to the fact that most have been within the last week or so, actually. And most are those with the best scholarship. But SURE chinese mafia.

I can definitely understand the reasoning but 1 day seemed a bit sudden. WUSTL is my number 1 choice but I am going to ask for at least a few days to decide.

It is my top school too! But I got too much projects to do and I just don't have the time to panic. Focus your energy on positive things such as fitness blah blah blah.

You're not accounting for the apathy factor. A lot of people set up a LSN account, list all of their acceptances, and then disappear. You obviously wouldn't know they withdrew if they didn't update.

There's also the self-selection bias of LSN in general. Most people don't use it, and the people on there can't be considered a true representative sample.

I am not surprised by the withdrawal numbers this week, though. As the seat deposit deadline came and went, people had to make their decisions whether they wanted to or not.

I would prefer to live in "hooray every school wants me" land forever, but alas, I have to grow up sometime.

I assume you didn't deposit?

Edit: For the first deadline, don't know about whether you're going to do so now.

Dear WUSTL,

Please let today be the day. Give me more money, and I will send in the final deposit. TYIA.

Dear WUSTL,

After you give Scotti more money, can you send us some awesome swag too? Then I will final deposit too because I won't be spending all of my money on shirts at the bookstore.

Thx,
meb
