that sounds like it should be confidential information. ED business necessitates communication between schools so I'd assume it ends there.berndie90 wrote:It could certainly influence scholarship negotiation. If a school knows that someone was denied HYS as opposed to being on the wait-list, perhaps a CCN would be less likely to offer a larger scholarship, knowing that they are your highest ranked choice still available?

It could have YP implications.californiauser wrote:How so?abdistotle wrote:It matters because knowing the extent to which schools communicate with one another throughout the decision process changes everything.californiauser wrote:Why does it even matter at this point? For someone who didn't show enough interest at many schools... If communication did not exist, it would matter a lot less than if communications were abound

You'd have to read the rules for the particular ED program that you applied to, but I'd imagine that most schools would require that you withdraw from those schools as well.

Dean Z has a blog post in which they checked someone's claim that they received $X from school Y as part of scholarship negotiations, and caught them in a lie. But it sounded like that sort of communication is the exception rather than the rule.

Re: Michigan Applicants C/O 2017 (Applicants 2013-2014)
Hey everyone, I was wondering for the people that did the supplemental essays, did people try to stay one page or do you think nearing 2 pages is okay. I know the directions say, "Each essay should be about one page (and no more than two)."
With that said does it seem like Michigan is trying to imply they want 1 page rather than 2 (I assume yea cause it's easier to read 1 page rather than 2 and with a large volume of applications 2 would probably drag on).
Also, would size 11 font be okay or is 12 the standard?
Thanks in advance

Do they send out acceptances via email as well?
I've been accepted via status check, but haven't received an email yet.

I think mine went a few lines over 1 page in 12 pt font. I don't think 11/12 matter, except that I wouldn't do a full 2 pages in 11 pt font.Bajam wrote:Hey everyone, I was wondering for the people that did the supplemental essays, did people try to stay one page or do you think nearing 2 pages is okay. My instinct is that getting close to a full 2 pages is fine if you're only doing one essay, but if you're doing two of them you probably shouldn't have more than ~3 pages total between the two.

I submitted 2, both spaced at 1.5 with 12 font. The first was just over 1 page, the other a bit more than 1.5 pages. I would take them at their word - Aim for 1, but you will not be penalized for going over closer to 2.Bajam wrote:Hey everyone, I was wondering for the people that did the supplemental essays, did people try to stay one page or do you think nearing 2 pages is okay. It seems that the rate of ppl getting accepted (at least on TLS) has really dropped.

Well, today is Wednesday, and W is the first letter in Wolverine, and W upside-down is M, which of course stands for Michigan, and since "Michigan Wolverines" has 18 letters in it, and today is the 18th, I'm pretty sure they're making a ton of decisions today and all we'll all be admitted via status checker tomorrow.jk148706 wrote:It seems that the rate of ppl getting accepted (at least on TLS) has really dropped.

Just received a Darrow invite!
Have there been interviews in the past? I would like to prepare for the types of questions they ask, but couldn't find a thread.

I'm not surprised that, of all schools, Michigan would be the one to really drop off coming up on the holidays. I'm also not sure how much this impacts the admissions team, but the school is doing exams this week, which may impact decisions. They also started releasing Darrow apps, which probably slows down their other work, and are probably getting ready to start making aid decisions for the crowd that's been accepted.jk148706 wrote:It seems that the rate of ppl getting accepted (at least on TLS) has really dropped.
I'd guess we won't see a whole lot more movement till we're solidly into January, and we won't see another huge wave again. I haven't looked at previous years, though, so I have no idea what the trends are and this is entirely speculation oh god someone get me off this site
