I do wonder how they determine once they've hit 500 words. Is the essay scanned for words and the 501st word and beyond is in red?

I too would have preferred a lengthened, single PS/Why UCI document. But alas, here we are.

Why on Earth is the PS 500 words? If the goal is to get as many applications as possible to have more applicants to pick and choose from, why would they choose to have their PS structure deviate so much from that of their competitors? My PS was already short - just under 2 pages with 12pt Times font, and just over 2 pages with 12.5pt Times font. With that length, I have 628 words and everything adds something I feel is essential. Frustrating :/

I found this to be annoying too. It would've been better for UCI to just combine the "Why UCI" essay with the personal statement and allow for a longer PS. After some editing I was only able to shorten my UCI PS to 600 words, I submitted it anyway.

i guess its ok for them to skip my last sentence. it's just some big words... the ending LOOKs better with them but not reading them won't affect anything..

I know the feeling, I cut mine down from 800 to 490. It's possible, even if it hurts.

I got a fee waiver and they promised to give lots of money this cycle, but I can't decide whether or not to apply. I already applied to UCLA and USC and I'm scared that their awesome clerkship+biglaw numbers will plummet by the time the 2017 class graduates.

I don't see how it would hurt to apply.

Well it still costs $25 from LSAC and I don't really want to apply to any schools which I would not attend. UCI is a confusing proposition.

so how long it takes for them to send you any real status updates, such as "under review"?

they just sent me an email says status checker is impersonal (well i actually prefer status checker...) so they will use email to communicate?..looks like we need to embrace the uncertainty..

Their ways are a mystery to us all. I'm a bit thankful that I have one less status checker to drive myself nuts with.

Well hello again, csargean. Looks like we both applied to at least USC and UCI.

Best of luck again haha. Hopefully both schools just love 167's this cycle.

Haha I'm thinking they will. Probably 90th percentile at UCI and 80th percentile at USC as far as LSAT. Given the continuing decline in LSAT takers this past year, there should be a similar application decline. Fingers crossed.
