Why do you say reality check? I thought the consensus was that the numbers would dip once the class size rose. Still, they held their clerkship numbers.

Number of federal clerkships held, but the percentage dipped. If the percentage held, I wouldn't be as concern, but depending on how much they increase their class size in the coming years, things could get ugly especially if USC or UCLA ramp up their clerkship efforts. Don't you think?
USC and UCLA will NOT "ramp up" their clerkship effots. I mean they are already trying there and this is the best they got. In fact that's where UCI has done well because chereminsky connections to the judges. Where Irvine will trail USC and UCLA is big law placement because partners will probably not hire from Irvine unless you are top 10% when their class grows. At USC/UCLA it's about 30-35%( lower for more elite firms). Not to mention the really crowded California market which is killing all cali schools.
